This is the voting thread for the 2024 Pattern of the Year competition. Voting will end at the end of December, 2025 anywhere on Earth. This means that you can still vote for the Pattern of the Year as long as it's still December where you live.

Here is the list of entries:
  • #01 Triple pseudo still life synthesis: The first known synthesis of the smallest triple pseudo still life. (by Dmitry Maitak)
  • #02 New gun periods: Five new gun periods were discovered in 2024 (15, 16, 35, 47, and 53), tying the record for a single calendar year since 1996. (by Period1GliderGun, Matthias Merzenich, Entity Valkyrie, iNoMed, hotcrystal0, et al.)
  • #03 New stable G-to-X: A stable glider-to-chaos converter that can be used to build a variety of reflectors, splitters, and converters. (by Anivec, Mitchell Riley)
  • #04 77P6H1V1 synthesis and gun: The first known synthesis (by Goldtiger997) and gun (by Entity Valkyrie) for a c/6 diagonal spaceship. (by Goldtiger997, Entity Valkyrie)
  • #05 Goban: The second known period-19 oscillator. (by Period1GliderGun)
  • #06 Independent p16 and p26 reflectors: The first independent glider reflectors of periods 16 and 26. Before these discoveries, only dependent reflectors were known at these periods. (by James Pascua, Period1GliderGun)
  • #07 Faster 2c/3 signal injectors and receivers: Fast and compact 2c/3 signal injectors by various users that work at repeat times as low as 61-ticks, along with a 708-tick signal receiver by Entity Valkyrie using a bait constellation suggested by Simon Ekström. These set the records for fastest 2c/3 signal injectors and receivers. (by Entity Valkyrie, James Pascua, Adam P. Goucher, Simon Ekström, Tanner Jacobi, Evin, vilc, Caleb R. Hilton)
  • #08 New c/4 diagonal technology: A significant expansion of c/4 diagonal technology, including new puffer engines and rakes, small object cleaners, and complex constructions. (by Keith Amling, David Bell, Matthias Merzenich, et al.)

  • #14 New wickstretchers and greystretchers: Two different c/2 coiled snake stretchers, and c/2 greystretchers bounded by coiled snakes and tables. (by Keith Amling)
  • #15 Small 135-degree LWSS-to-glider converter: A small 135-degree G-to-LWSS converter with a repeat time of 40 ticks, which can be overclocked at 38 ticks. (by whatislife)
  • #16 One-glider digital clock seed: A one-glider seed for a digital clock. (by Hippo.69)
  • #17 Compact pseudo p16 LWSS gun: A record-setting compact pseudo-period p16 LWSS gun constructed by Entity Valkyrie, based on a LWSS insertion mechanism by vilc. (by Entity Valkyrie and vilc)
  • #18 Fast synthesizable spaceship guns: Record low period guns for loafer, crab, and B29 constructed by Entity Valkyrie using improved glider syntheses by various users. (by Entity Valkyrie, Louis-François Handfield, Evin, iNoMed, Goldtiger997, Tanner Jacobi, and DroneBetter)

  • #20 New 2c/7 tagalongs: Several new 2c/7 tagalongs that can be combined with known components in various ways (by Caleb R. Hilton, Matthias Merzenich, and Dmitry Maitak)
  • #21 Rectangular c/2 against-the-grain greyship: A fully rectangular against-the-grain greyship. Such a ship is very difficult to construct, as it requires several period-8 components. (by Keith Amling)
  • #22 Adjustable period (2,1)c/6 rake: A series of (2,1)c/6 rakes with periods 48+24n. (by vilc)
  • #23 RCT15 optimization project: A reverse caber tosser-based spacefiller synthesis that reduces the tape length by roughly a factor of three from the first working RCT15 pattern (which synthesized Alan Hensel's decimal counter). (by Hippo.69)
  • #24 Fast stable F171: A long-desired variant of Brice Due's F171 conduit that uses a new catalyst to suppress an unwanted blinker, reducing the repeat time from 227 ticks to 120 ticks and allowing it to be followed by dependent conduits. (by Evin and Simon Ekström)
  • #25 Extensible "clock" syntheses: Syntheses of a series of muttering moats, of which clock and cha-cha are the smallest examples. (by vilc)
  • #26 New spartan technology: Various new spartan converters and conduits found largely using the new programs LightCone and Silk. Highlights include a compact Herschel splitter and a fast G-to-W-to-H. (by Mitchell Riley, Adam P. Goucher, Lucy D'Agostino, Anivec, Evin, and Dave Greene)

Highlights include the first p17 sparkers, a new p37 dependent reflector loop, record small oscillators of periods 118, 123, and 171, and long-boat-based middleweight sparkers supporting various engines. (by various users)
To vote for a pattern, simply include a line where that pattern's number is, followed by a number of asterisks from one to three corresponding to how strongly you want to vote for that pattern. If you do not want to vote for a pattern, simply do not include a line with its number.

In case some of you are concerned about mixing up the numbers, here is a version optimized for voting. Simply replace the name of each pattern with the number of asterisks that you want to give it (and remove lines corresponding to patterns that you don't want to vote for).
