KILLGLIDERS interfering with the evolutions of patterns

Post by tommyaweosme »

I believe other people have brought this up, but KILLGLIDERS interferes with the evolution of patterns where a glider goes out, and then another thing goes up, and then the thing going up collides with the glider going out.

Here is a perfect example:

Code: Select all

#R life
42b4o$42b2o$43b2o54$3o$o2bo$o$o$bo!

Code: Select all

#C [[ KILLGLIDERS ]]
#R life
42b4o$42b2o$43b2o54$3o$o2bo$o$o$bo!
The top pattern creates a glider, which then collides with the LWSS to create more ash.

The bottom pattern destroys the glider before it can interact with the LWSS, such to prematurely end the evolution of the pattern.
here's the gosper glider gun

Code: Select all

#R life
24bo$22bobo$12b2o6b2o12b2o$11bo3bo4b2o12b2o$2o8bo5bo3b2o$2o8bo3bob2o4b
obo$10bo5bo7bo$11bo3bo$12b2o!

Ones like that are probably unlikely to be solved, but perhaps it could be made so that instead of having to escape the bounding box, it has to get 10 cells outside the bounding box? or 100?

It needs to be 3 cells outside of the bounding diamond extended diagonally perpendicular to the motion of the glider.

There's a problem: we cannot guarantee interaction.

The glider would crash upon LWSS if it's not killed:

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 29, rule = B3/S23
33b2o$33bobo$33bo22$3o$o2bo$o$o$bo!
[[ KILLGLIDERS ]]
You can make the glider as far as possible while still having it eventually collide:

Code: Select all

x = 115, y = 108, rule = B3/S23
112b2o$112bobo$112bo101$3o$o2bo$o$o$bo!

Ok, ones like that don't matter, but long lasting methuselahs behave differently with kill gliders on. This could be solved by making it have to travel further out from the bounding box.

What about the following case?:

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
b2o$b3o$ob2o$3o$bo14$28bo$26b2o$27b2o!

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 21, rule = B3/S23
b2o$b3o$ob2o$3o$bo14$28bo$26b2o$27b2o!
