If you’re curious where I got the idea, I saw Puyo Puyo Tetris (as well as the sequel); basically there’s a Tetris world, and I thought it was cool that they managed to give Tetris lore/a world like that, and then thought it’d be fun to do something like this
I do want to better learn to understand Life so I can make these guys (and the little world they live in as a whole) more than just creative interpretations of patterns - that’s to say, I want to try to incorporate actual mechanics into it!
So far all I’ve decided for this Life-world is that:
- it’s made of cells that infinitely reproduce, though the world is finite and there’s a border (which kills cells when they touch it)
- the landscape is very much alive (as well as dead, it’s a mix of dead cells and living cells making up the ground), so maps are useless; I’m assuming there was a soup at one point
- the inhabitants are also made of the cells that make up the lands; consequently nobody really has parents nor reproduces - sometimes the cells happen to align in a way that forms them and they have to figure out how to survive
- any given inhabitant can fuse with other cells if they want to
- overall the “culture” is pretty much nonexistent, instead of civilisations, every individual fends for themselves and makes their own reasons for things
- everything is made of cells, so cells will cannibalise each other (I guess if, considering in real life, energy is never created or destroyed, the overall mass of cells has energy that’s just constantly bouncing between individuals as they eat each other, die, etc.)
