Predator Prey interactions

I was curious if anyone has implemented two competing populations in Conway's Game of Life. I know it has been done in SQGOL, but that isn't compatible with golly . . .
From the rules created, I can't seem to find anything like this and I'm not sure if it is possible in golly.
Has anyone tried creating a predator-prey simulator?

Here is a link to the SQGOL paper if anyone is interested

I’m using cursors for now because this problem is awkward to reason about cleanly with sets or apply. That said, they’ll probably get replaced later with a more set-based formulation.

This might only be the second or third time in my life where I’ve thought, “yeah, a cursor is actually the right tool here.

It could exist in Golly with Ruletable (can define any range-1 rules that has 2-256 states), but I'm not sure how would "predator prey interactions" that you meant works.
