So far, I know of three CAs that do this:
WWLife: Life cells get converted into wire cells, which can birth Life cells:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 12, rule = WWLife
.A$2.A$3A$19.2D$18.D2.D$18.D2.D3.D$5.13D2.D3.2D$19.D3.D.D$20.3D.2D.D$
23.D.D$24.2D$25.D!
WWLife2: State 1 follow Life normally, but follow WireWorld when next to States 2 or 3. Wire cells are made when a live cell has eight neighbors:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 17, rule = WWLife2
A.A5.A.A$.2A6.CA$.A7.A3$24.7A6$26.A$25.BCB$25.A$25.C2.2A$25.BCABA$29.
2C!
WireLife: Wire cells run through State 1, which follows Life:

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 7, rule = WireLife
9.C$8.ABA$8.C.C8.B$2.C6.C8.A.C$C.C14.C2.C$.2C14.C.C$18.C!

WWLifeFunc: An extension of WWLife:

Code: Select all

x = 41, y = 7, rule = WWLifeFunc

I'll edit the post when I finish the ruletable.
