People interested in Life/CA are absolutely welcome here. It's just that high-volume/high-frequency "chatlike" activity isn't welcome.

This website aims to be about "hard puzzles" about cellular automata, when it takes some nontrivial amount of effort to solve the puzzle.
If you feel something is easy to find, don't bother posting it. When you are posting something, try to contribute something new and nontrivial.

That does not mean there's no place for "fun" things here. "Hard puzzles" also can be fun, but in a different way.

This is not really recent. The overall S/N ratio gradually decreases over several years. Just like Tolkien's world, this world is in a perpetual state of decline.

I have some thoughts related to the "Anyone know why?" question above, but OTOH I can predict some disagreement on that, and anyway there are multiple causes, without any single "easy fix".

Sometimes, when an overenthusiastic newcomer attempts to conquer the Life/CA universe, that becomes a problem.

Other times, when an overenthusiastic gatekeeper attempts to turn the forums into an "all work and no play" type thing, that becomes a problem.

I don't know, but that's better than thousands of random people spamming unnecessary things on the forums (not saying that having interest is wrong, just the fact that it's quite annoying to see a post that doesn't have value in the discussion.)

Sometimes, when two or more overenthusiastic newcomers post a lot of weird stuff and get involved in chatlike conversations, that becomes a problem.
(although one at a time would be quite enough already)
