general error

like 20 minutes ago when i tried to go to anywhere on conwaylife.com it showed "general error" and i had to refresh multiple times

... which might be one of causes of said general error. I currently see around 70-80 guests on the forums.

I think that just happens sometimes. It usually doesn't last long. If it's a persistent problem for you, it would be helpful if you could give more details such as a copy-paste or screenshot of the error message, which operating system and browser you use, and when or how often the error seems to occur.

I've also started getting the General Error message.

Right now, the number of guests is hovering at around 200. Here is a screenshot:

Sometimes it starts happening noticeably more frequently (like, every three or four page load attempts).
Sometimes it doesn't happen, or happens just once or twice in a day.
This is from my observations over last several months or so.

I suspect such large amount of connections can be made by some web crawler bot.

This error has been occurring often and has destroyed a bunch of progress in a recent post I made, but the wiki appears to be in even worse shape, with the page formatting sometimes completely breaking in all possible combinatorial ways.

I also observe these oddities. And one more thing: sometimes, after clicking the like button, an error may appear:

Another strange thing: the list of active users shows that some guests are viewing member profiles and replying to messages, but this is impossible.

- twice when clicking on 'General Discussion', reloading, and clicking again
- twice when clicking on this topic, reloading, and clicking again
- four times when trying to submit this post, reloading, and clicking again

They're attempting to reply to threads, but the message is preventing them.

Spammers can find or invent lots of reasons to do something that looks totally ridiculous from the viewpoint of a reasonable well-intentioned person.

One possible reason is confusion between Life and life. LWTDS

Another possible reason is that, well, maybe they are people who didn't understand mathematics (perhaps due to some bad luck with a teacher or something), and now they don't believe anyone could possibly seriously view mathematics as something interesting or fun, and maybe now those people are trying to disrupt a place they accidentally found, where some strange people are apparently trying to discuss some mathematics?

High school math classes are a complete disaster which leads to many people coming out hating math without realizing that it isn't the math they hate. Usually it's either the class or the teacher.

Poorly written spambot is most likely reason I think.
(they waste not only resources of this forum, but their own too)

Another common reason is conflicts inside of community.
Was anyone banned recently?
