We all know that 34 Life is explosive. But I managed to make it non-explosive by removing S4a and S4e survival conditions.
With two non-totalistic transitions removed, Two diagonal and orthogonal spaceships are now common.

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 13, rule = B34/S34-ae
2bo$b2o$bo$bo$bo$b2o$2bo4$2bo$b2o$3o!
Like 34 Life, this rule does contains lots of oscillators an the only common still life, block.

Edit: Non-exploding 34 Life is NE34L for short.

You can remove just one transition:

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = B34/S34-a
!
[[ RANDOMIZE ]]
I found a fake spinning glider:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B34/S34-a
2bo$2o$b2o!

This is what I did in Stint34Life1 too(Stabilized interesting 34Life):

New interesting rules will be named Stint34Life2, Stint34Life3, etc.
Edit q:
Just 2 transitions away, this rule has 3 independent high-period mechanisms, 1 p14, 1 p28, and 1 p26:

Code: Select all

x = 81, y = 11, rule = B3aijq4-a5y78/S2ai34-ky7

This rulespace used to be called boring, but it is Exciting!
Edit 2:
Why is apgsearch soooooo slow?!

Yes, removing S4a is enough, but removing S4e too will results in more common diagonal spaceships.
I also had found the spinning glider long before.

In which rule?

I'm calling the diagonal spaceship "loafship" because in some of it's phases it represents some predecessors of a normal Life loaf

One property of 3/4 Life is that the birth and survival conditions are the same, so the current state of a cell does not affect the new state of the same cell one tick later. This is not true for these variations anymore. It might be possible to find a two-state isotropic cellular automaton with same property. One possibility is B34-int/S34-int, not sure if it is active enough:

Code: Select all

#C [[ RANDOMIZE RANDWIDTH 128 RANDHEIGHT 128 ]]
x = 1, y = 1, rule = B34-int/S34-int
b!
Edit: a p25 oscillator appeared in C1 census:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 4, rule = B34-int/S34-int
bo4bo$3o2b3o$3o2b3o$bo4bo!
It can convert c/3o gliders into c/3d gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 38, y = 19, rule = B34-int/S34-int

Edit 3: c/3d shuttles

Just back to this old thread. I've rulegolfed 34 Life again so it doesn't explodes while keeping the property of having same B/S conditions and preserve the 3 small spaceships (as well as 2 new common spaceships):

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 4, rule = B3-qy4-t/S3-qy4-t
9b4o4b4o6bo$b2o6bo2bo4bo2bo4b4o4b3o$4o4b2o2bo4bo2bo4bobo6b2o$10bobo6b
o6b2o7bo!
EDIT:
Found this p46:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3-qy4-t/S3-qy4-t
6o$o4bo$o4bo$6o!
Sadly the final ash of soups are dominated by p6s.
