I've just begun development of a rule that allows you to "emulate" multiple life-like cellular automata (including Life itself) inside of a single rule table.
Rule table (for now):

Code: Select all

@RULE RuleEmulator5
@TABLE
n_states:6
neighborhood:Moore

The rules emulated include:
  • Life (B3/23, white)
  • HighLife (B36/S23, red)
  • Day and Night (B3678/S34678, yellow)
  • Diamoeba (B35678/S5678, green)
  • Move (B368/S245, blue)
Here's a collection of spaceships in multiple cellular automata, emulated using RuleEmulator:

I haven't figured out exactly what to do if a dead cell has, say, three state-1 neighbours ("Life neighbours"), and three state-2 neighbours ("HighLife neighbours"). What happens then? Should a cell be born as a Life cell or as a HighLife cell?

Just leave it off, otherwise it won't be a symmetric rule.

Is this supposed to have Symbiosis vibes? One neighbor of a different state is enough to keep any cell alive.

So basically the same concept as the 2016 Rainbow rules?: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2078&p=28554#p28554
