For some reason, I'm not on the aggregate. It doesn't affect the mentioned winning pattern(s), though, so it's not terribly important, but I still was a bit surprised.

Oh, sorry -- I must have missed you! Anyway, I've updated the results table in my previous post.

I realized the 260-cell sawtooth means that the pattern collection in golly contains outdated info: under life-->miscellaneous-->sawtooth6b, the comments say

#C May be the smallest known sawtooth pattern by population.
#C The minimum population is 278 (at generation 0, 768, ...)

Obviously that should be changed in future versions of golly.

This has likely been outdated since Golly's initial release, as a 269-cell sawtooth was found on July 7, 2005 (see sawtooth 260). Beyond this, there are many more patterns in the Golly pattern collection that are outdated.

I know that the last message on this thread was more than two years ago, so I'm sorry if I shouldn't have bump it.
I'm just wondering about the phi calculator..
It sounds pretty amazing, but I have searched it online, and I couldn't find any RLE file of it. Can someone send me it, and if you can't make an RLE file, can you at least show me pictures and videos of how this pattern works?
I didn't found any information about it in the forum, and I didn't want to open a whole new thread just for that. I already have enough new threads.

I was thinking about mentioning Calcyman's pi calculator [pentadecathlon.com/lifeNews] on the all-time-favorite-pattern thread that you started. The phi calculator is described in the same LifeNews writeup. The digit images were linked to valid copies of the files, but I've fixed the main links so they both work again as well. They're macrocell files for Golly rather than RLE, since an RLE file would be unnecessarily large.

I see there are some other interesting patterns from that time period, in the same folder on cranemtn.com as the last linked file in the article. Besides the fine-structure constant calculator (based on the phi calculator, and intended for the small-to-nonexistent audience that appreciates really bad Conway's Life shaggy-dog April Fool math jokes) there's also Calcyman's 3-digit hex counter and his universal computer-constructor, various Gemini guns, and so on. Maybe someone should grab a copy of some of these for the LifeWiki; the pi and phi calculators certainly need their own entries.
