I was messing around in Golly, trying to find interesting rules, when i stumbled upon this rule: b2e3-acj4ci5a6i7e8s2-a34ajk5ce7. It is characterised by this explosive, somewhat large, and common period 6 oscillator:
Many spaceships exist in this rule, including a 4c/29 ship based on the previously mentioned oscillator.
Oscillators are known for periods 2-10, 12-15, 18, 20, 24, 30, 35, 40, 42, 52, 56, 60, 84, and 156 although these have all come from apgsearch and it is likely that there are other periods that haven't yet been found. For example at the time of writing this, period 5 hasn't been found, but a segment of the period 30 oscillator contains a period 5 subpattern.
One infinite growth pattern has been found by May13, which is a (2,1)c/6 stretcher.
Still lives, although not as varied and interesting as the oscillators, do exist, including the block. Many larger still lives are largely comprised of multiple r-pentominoes stabilising each other, and more often than not contain an even number of cells.
As for many cellular automata, it remains a question if this rule is omniperiodic. Any form of spaceship reflector hasn't been discovered yet as well. I will continue updating this therad if i find anything else of note.
I am currently using apgsearch to try do discover some of these unknown patterns, and I would appreciate it if somebody else also did because it would probably make finding interesting patterns a lot faster than my PC alone. Thanks!
