Let's create a world!

Post by BokaBB »

Inspired by Schaparelio's thread, this thread aims to simulate the complete history of a world with many civilisations that emerged independently from all the others, from the origins of agriculture to today's age.
Have a good day!

Hmmmm, better not on this Earth but on somewhere very similar. They are also humans and many real - life species should also exist.
How we should start?

I guess that it likely have to have begun in a river valley like all the other civilisations. It could be surrounded in plains with no deserts nearby.
I guess we would need a really long back in prehistory to begin, maybe 10000 years or something like that.

Something like that is almost necessary for a project like this. Are there mountains? What's the climate like? Is the area flat? How long are rivers? Are there other bodies of water nearby? If you want you can give me a draft for a (not necessarily complete) world map with bodies of water and rivers and I'll take care of mountains, elevation and climate.

Ummmm.... all of them are either expensive or bad-looking.
The place of our civilisation should be mostly green plains, altrough a few mountains here and there are fine.
There should be some big rivers, two would be ideal. The ocean should either be in the west or east,it is up to you. Maybe also a bit to the south.
A few islands are fine but don't overuse them. 2-4 medium-sized lakes would also be appreciated.
The climate should be moderate.
I wish there to exist some climate change happening the years but it will be probably hard to do realistically.

Yes, they're all pretty expensive. I'll look for free alternatives, if I can't find any, we can just draw a map on paper or use something like Paint.

I don't think we should do it without there being a cause for it. A small change can spontaneously form, and that will likely create a positive feedback loop. Example: The planet gets a tiny bit colder, causing the polar ice caps to expand, causing albedo (sunlight reflected off of the planet) to increase because ice is white, cooling the planet even further.

Okay, but ice ages will likely prevent agriculture from arising,so I think that when it ended about 10000 years ago,big floods occured and people accidentally discovered agriculture.

That was just an example. The opposite works too, just in reverse. Large floods would happen when glaciers holding back water break from the increasing pressure due to rising sea levels and slightly warmer temperatures. This would happen at the start of the end of an ice age.

We don't need to have one civilization. We can have multiple river valleys around the planet with different climates to allow for different crops. Inventing crops is also an interesting idea.

I will rename this thread then.
How many civilisations? Is 6 - 7 good? That is nearly the same as on Earth (Sumer,Egypt,Indus Valley,Olmecs,Caral and China,a total of 6, altrough Egypt and possibly Indus Valley may not nesecarrily be independent.).

Yes.
Idea: let's make a prototype map using codes here, where O - s are sea(Or S -s?),0 - s barbarians (Or O - s uf we agree on the previous thing?)(Or lesser civilisations,or maybe we could use L - s for them?) and A - G various civilizations. It should be like Earth with continents and one big overdominant landmass (Like Afro-Euroasia on Earth.).

If we're creating an entire world, we need to determine how its solar system formed-Earth was influenced a lot by that and this planet would be, too. Things like that would include mass of the planet, distance from star, brightness, color, temperature of star, what moons it had, etc.

Woah, there. If the sun were a different color, that would affect plants, which would have evolved to absorb different wavelengths of light...
I REALLY don't think we can just gloss over this.

We don't actually necessarily need it to be a planet. We could do something like Biblaridion's refugium.
