Chemical CA are my new project that aims to make a multi - state cellular automaton with states that will behave very similarly to real life chemical elements.
Have a good day!

Ok, let's start with a simple CA that can simulate combustion (burning). It will have carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen.

nah
just make a ca that models a very simple artificial chemistry (I described one earlier)

Well you did say let's make a carbon/oxygen CA, and isn't that what burning is (minus the hydrogen)? Valence electrons would be too complicated I think.

Yeah, but a specific goal such as burning may be a bit too specific; I think we should make something that models a very simple artificial chemistry. The system I described earlier would not involve valence electrons, but simply limits set on types of bonds that can form.

Just saying that we could start simpler to see if it even works. It would be a huge disappointment if we made more states and it didn't work because of a fundamental flaw.
Did you change my name to weird quotes what because I quoted without saying much on your thread?

no I changed it to weird quotes what because the quotes in the post I quoted were weird, and what I said was what you said and vice versa

Ok then, to recap, I think we should make a CA that can simulate combustion(burning) with hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen. We should make it as a proof of concept before we start making something bigger.

You can also use TPT as a reference.

I just looked it up, never heard about it before but I guess we can use it. Though in this CA I don't want gravity. Molecules should move on their own. What should happen when they collide? Remember we are using the Moore neighbourhood so we can't instantly make larger molecules bring smaller molecules with them or have them stop altogether.

I think you can turn off gravity in TPT, but I can't check right now - ask BokaBB.

Re: Collision, they do what they should do in real life.
If they don't chemically react they should just rebound, going in the opposite directions that they came from. Bu that could be challenging to make, especially with large molecules because you have to have the whole molecule start moving at the same time. You can't have a few atoms start moving before others.

Bonds can conduct force. When one atom begins to move, the rest of the molecule is pulled.

But we're using the Moore neighbourhood. Influence can only move so fast.

A few atoms start moving before others is not that much of a problem, especially when we're at a macro perspective.

So if we have something like a polymer one end will start moving before others. I don't know, maybe that would make it even more realistic because polymers can bend.

Yes, I saw that too. I will post there. I think the combustion CA should have heat.
