pattern browser / editor / simulator

Post by jimeh87 »

I've been working on a GoL website on and off for a couple of years that I want to share with you guys. The site is https://gameoflife.xyz.

I would say the best feature is the pattern browser. It provides the ability to preview a pattern as a thumbnail while browsing. I've spent so many hours looking through all the amazing patterns.

The biggest weakness is that it implements the list life algorithm instead of the hashlife algorithm, so some very large patterns are unplayable.

Let me know what you think :)

What originally caught my eye was the Patterns list, and it's gotten better -- I like the new Wide format.

With no filter applied it's an oversized random assortment of patterns (from the LifeWiki pattern collection) -- but as soon as you apply a filter, the preview functionality really starts looking useful. It's really nice to get a visual preview of each pattern that matches a search string, instead of just a list of names -- and to be able to preview-run each pattern directly from the summary page just by pointing at it.
