Find a rule with...

Post by AforAmpere »

These are sort of rule finding challenges, like:
-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most three-cell spaceships.
-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the highest period oscillator with three cells at its minimum phase, my best bet is this p72:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2ek3aei/S02cek5q
bo2$o$2bo!
-Find a Non-totalistic rule with a minimum period 23 oscillator,etc.
-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most spaceship speeds.
I will keep track of the records for these, and other challenges, you can also pose other challenges, but not too many, or some will be left out.

p132 oscillator which works in rules B2c3aceijknq4eijnrtwy5ei6acek7c8/S03kny4ijt5aenq6i8 - B2c3aceijknq4eijnqrtwy5ceikq6acekn7c8/S03kny4ijtwz5aceknq6ein8

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 1, rule = B2c3-ry4-ackqz5ei6-in7c8/S03kny4ijt5aenq6i8
obobo!
The rule I found it in also happens to have a natural 7-cell c/19 spaceship (this is the minimal rule)

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 7, rule = B2c3-ry4-ackqz5ceiq6c/S03ny4it5en
3bo2$o$2b3o$o2$3bo!
Edit:
p140 oscillator which works in B2cek3ejr4ceijkw5ijkqy6aceik/S12ck3aciq4aejqr6an7e8 - B2cek3ejr4ceijkw5ijkqy6aceik/S12ck3acikq4aejqr5k6an7e8

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 1, rule = B2cek3ejr4ceijkw5ijkqy6-n/S12ck3aciq4aejqr6an7e8
2obo!
I have a small collection of high period 3-cell oscillators now.

The first one:
AforAmpere wrote:-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most three-cell spaceships.
seems to be much harder. Even rules with just three different 3-cell spacechips are very rare (going by my survey at least).
AforAmpere wrote:-Find a Non-totalistic rule with a minimum period 23 oscillator,etc.
I don't understand what you mean with this one.

How about "Find an isotropic non-totalisic rule with the slowest 3-cell spaceship."?

I mean find a period 23 oscillator with the smallest minimum phase.

Current records:

-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most three-cell spaceships-
B2ek3-ajny4ajqr5a/S02ack3ackny4aq5y, 5 three cell ships.

-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the highest period oscillator with two cells at its minimum phase- B2aci4j/S1e2e3-aciq4ei5r, p34

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 1, rule = B2aci4j/S1e2e3-aciq4ei5r

-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the highest period oscillator with three cells at its minimum phase-
B2-ae3ajkq4inrtwy5anqr6-e/S02cik3aqy4acinwyz5einy6ce7c, p466

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 1, rule = B2-ae3ajkq4inrtwy5anqr6-e/S02cik3aqy4acinwyz5einy6ce7c
obo3bo!
-Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most spaceship speeds- AbhpzTa's rule with infinite orthogonal speeds, B2c3ae4ai56c/S2-kn3-enq4
Literally can't be beaten, unless he makes a rule for all real speeds, which is a larger cardinal infinity (which is kind of impossible).

-Find an isotropic non-totalisic rule with the slowest 3-cell orthogonal spaceship-
B2-ai3aek4ijtz5e7e/S01c2aik3-akry4aknwy5jn6ikn7, c/56

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B2-ai3aek4ijtz5e7e/S01c2aik3-akry4aknwy5jn6ikn7

-Find an isotropic non-totalisic rule with the slowest 3-cell diagonal spaceship-
B2-ai3-ejnr4ekqrw5ir6a/S02ci3-jny4ciqy5aijk6k, c/96

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2-ai3-ejnr4ekqrw5ir6a/S02ci3-jny4ciqy5aijk6k

I haven't checked the 5S collection yet, but here are the slowest ones I've found:
Orthogonal - c/49

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = B2-ak3cjy4r5cy6cek8/S01c2-ek3aejnq4cknrt5an6kn7c8

Diagonal - c/72

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2cik3ajn4cikr5acqry6aen/S02-ci3enqy4az5aeiny6-ae

For the oscillators, I suspect there may be some interesting ones with 2 cells at their minimum phase. So far I have seen p2-p8, p10 and p12

Formalising the 2-cell version:

In general I am posting these results in the minimal rule which they work in. I'm also only surveying rules within the isotropic part of the non-totalistic rulespace. I'm not sure if this was the intention of these challenges or not.

A rule with an infinite amount of c/odd number speeds accessible by extending one spaceship in an extremely trivial way, similarly to that of B2c3ae4ai56c/S2-kn3-enq4 's even speeds.

Updated the challenges. Muzik, this thread is mostly for numerical based challenges, like highest period, or smallest size, or most spaceships, though I guess your question could be asked: "Find a Non-totalistic rule with the most distinct speed c/(2n+1) ships," or something like that. I am already working on that challenge, but there is probably a rule nearby AbhpzTa's rule.

Please learn how to use Ruleloader, instead of yelling at everyone to do it for you. There are instructions all over the place, and you already got an answer in another topic.

Find a non-totalistic rule with a 3-cell spaceship that has the largest bounding box in a phase when it only has 3 cells.

Don't neglect patterns with isolated dots - they can still be ships and oscillators in rules with S0.

I think this (3,2)c/43 knightship is the largest I've found so far (bbox: 7x3 = 21), I haven't been keeping track of their bounding boxes:

In terms of size of rotor I don't think there are that many xp23 smaller than this natural one:

I posted a 3-cell p23 oscillator above

@AforAmpere: Could you please update the results? Presuming the 2nd reply in this thread is the official results, then the highest period 3-cell oscillator is out of date (now p466) and the minimum phase p23 oscillator challenge is missing. Are you also going to include the "ship with largest 3-cell phase bounding box" challenge?

It's been a while since this thread's been active, but I still like to play this game every now and then.

Several current records are rather out of date.

Superceeded by p62 found by A for awesome, then again by Macbi's high period 2-cell oscillators found with LLS and two-cell-oscillators.cpp. Current record found with Macbi's two-cell-oscillators.cpp:
