Converting the existing Python script to Lua is
well within your own abilities, even if you think otherwise.
* You'll just have to invest some time learning how to do the translation, and work through the painful mysterious error messages until you solve them all.
The Python script in question has only 66 lines of code, and the majority of them need
no changes at all to work in Lua. That includes pretty much any line that starts with "g.", and probably most of the function calls also -- and there are a lot of function calls. So for example, the first function,
paste_file, can probably be completely identical in the Lua version -- you just have to change the function definition from Python style to Lua style.
Alternatively, you could
keep on patiently answering my annoying questions until we get Python working on your system, the way it does for most other people, instead of repeatedly dropping these troubleshooting discussions
in the middle, and then asking for help again later somewhere else.
There's a very small Golly user base that requires Lua instead of Python -- just you at the moment, it seems. It's unlikely that other people will want to invest time and effort on your behalf to do Lua conversions of every possible Python script, if you don't seem to be willing to invest at least a similar amount of effort yourself.
* EDIT: Well... on second thought, this project certainly wouldn't be a lot of fun if you couldn't do experiments in Python, and then run test code in Lua and make sure that little pieces of it were doing the same thing as the equivalent Python code. So getting Python working would really be the best starting point... Does your Python 2.7.x command line work?
