This rule is pretty nice, since it has a lot of Life elements: except a crucial one. This crucial element is that birth on 3 adjacent cells like this:
is prohibited.
I also tossed in a few other elements, like birth with two cells in certain occasions and survival on four in the 'q' state only.
Oscillators (one from Life and three 'twiddlers')
Code: Select all
x = 21, y = 20, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q

Make that one more oscillator:
Code: Select all
x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
b2o$o$o2bo$bo!
EDIT: And two more:
Code: Select all
x = 6, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
3b2o$2bo2bo$bo2bo$o2bo$b2o!
Code: Select all
x = 7, y = 7, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
4bo$3bobo$6bo$bo3bo$o$bobo$2bo!

3 decently common still lifes that are not in Life:
Code: Select all
x = 20, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
2o7bo6b2o$obo5bobo4bob2o$2b2o3b2ob2o3bo3bo$2bo5bobo5b3o$9bo7bo!
Another oscillator as well:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 4, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
bo$o$bobo$3b2o!

This time a more interesting oscillator:
Code: Select all
x = 6, y = 6, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
bo$obo$ob2o$bo$2b2obo$3bo!
And a less interesting one:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
bobo$bobo$o3bo$bobo$bobo!
A beacon type:
Code: Select all
x = 8, y = 8, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
4bo$3bobo$3bob2o$b2o4bo$o4b2o$b2obo$2bobo$3bo!

This rule is very fast to apgsearch and gives very high scoring soups!
Here are some rare, interesting period oscillators (p15, p12, p10):
Code: Select all
x = 49, y = 10, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
22bo19bo$21b3o17b3o$3b2o15bo3bo15bo3bo$2bob2o14b5o15b4obo$2bo3bo14bo3b
2o16bobo$bob5o14b2obobo12b2obobobo$2obo3bo15bobob2o12bobobob2o$3bob2o
17b2o2bo14bo3bo$2bo2bo21bo15bob2o$3b2o21bo17bo!

Spaceships are impossible in this rule, since no pattern can grow out of its bounding diamond.

True, actually. Alexey, can you make wsearch for this.

It is quite a non-trivial task, and I will not volunteer to do it. If someone wants to give it a try, I can publish Delphi source code.

I dont know delphi. I might try it in python though.

Found a predecessor to a twit:
Code: Select all
x = 7, y = 8, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
2b2o$5bo$o4bo$4bobo$bobobo$4bobo$5bo$5bo!
Yet another oscillator too:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
bobo$2ob2o2$bob2o$2b2o!
EDIT: Definitely a thumb type:
Code: Select all
x = 8, y = 7, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
4b2o$6bo$2bobob2o$b2obobo$o3bo$b2obo$2b2o!

Where's the apgsearch page?
EDIT:
Code: Select all
x = 6, y = 7, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q

A real spark coil type!
Code: Select all
x = 10, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
b2o4b2o$o2bo2bo2bo$2obo2bob2o$bobo2bobo$2bo4bo!
EDIT: And this gem:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 5, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
3bo$bob2o$o3bo$b3o$2b2o!

The p5 used in that p15 can eat blocks:
Code: Select all
x = 20, y = 11, rule = B2ikn3-a/S234q
2o15b2o$2o15b2o2$2b2o11b2o$bo2bo9bo2bo$2obo9b2obo$o2bob2o6bo2bob2o$b3o
bo8b3obo$4bo12bo$b2obo9b2obo$2b2o11b2o!
If spaceships existed in this rule (Which they don't), it would be useful in making eaters for the ships.
Any sufficiently advanced software is indistinguishable from malice.
