Highest prime period oscillator in OCA (and Life) Contest

Here's the rules:
1.) Only two-state, non-totalistic/totalistic (e.g. B3678/S34678, B3/S2-i34q)
2.) Be creative
This contest's deadline is, well, never. And your posts can be just interesting prime period oscillators, not necessarily the new record holder.

The number you have to beat for now is 149, not too hard:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 19, rule = B367/S35678
7bo$8b2o$7b5o$5b6o$5b7o$4b10o$2b12o$2b14o$16o$14o$13o$13o$11o$11o$b8o$
2b6o$2b6o$4b2o$4b2o!
EDIT: My mistake :oops:

B3/S2-i34q is non-totalistic.

No. The first two are with Randagar, the 3rd by hand.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned p103079214841.rle yet.

I guess because this is in the OCA forum. But it DOES say "and life" ... You win the thread.

Not so fast! No one can win this thread -- there's always a larger prime number out there.

Also, this is just more evidence that Golly's Online Archives are not advertised enough, or in the right places: it seems as if very few people find the Very Large Patterns collection.

One of the patterns there is Mersenne-44497.mc, an oscillator built by Calcyman with a period of 2^44497-1. That's a 13395-digit prime number, and the 27th Mersenne prime.

The oscillator circuitry could maybe be improved a good bit these days. With Snarks and syringes and semi-Snarks and suchlike, it may even be possible to fit a larger Mersenne prime -- the 28th is 2^86243-1 -- into a smaller space...!
