Help for 4-state Collaborative Rule

StruggleLife

I have thought that it may be interesting to create collaboratively a 4-state Life-like rule. I think that a good idea is to make it non-explosive, interesting (the other two states must be able to take part in oscillators and/or spaceships) without deviating too much from Life, with state 1 behaving quite similar to Life.

Notes:
- It will be a (permute) totalistic-based rule
- The ideas in the first paragraph should be taken into account
- Interaction with the two new states should not allow extremely bizarre reactions (so avoid an ExtendedLife-like behaviour)
- I post the first version here, still subject to many changes...
- ...and you can post newer versions/improvements of the previous one...
- ...until we reach one that is complex/interesting enough.

(post the rule as StruggleLifeN, with N-1 being the integer that appeared in the name of the older version)

A 10c/432o puffer:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = StruggleLife1

An eater of some sort:

OK, here's a variation with similar behaviour and perhaps slightly more activity of the state 2 cells. Not yet any relatively common new oscillators using interaction between states, but it can be hard to observe presence of such things if they are sufficiently rare to not dominate. I've left the general behaviour comments even though they're not particularly applicable to the modifications I made.

I think you mean "A symmetric spark"?
wildmyron wrote:OK, here's a variation with similar behaviour and perhaps slightly more activity of the state 2 cells. Not yet any relatively common new oscillators using interaction between states, but it can be hard to observe presence of such things if they are sufficiently rare to not dominate.
Perhaps there's more than I thought. There are at least new p3 and p6 oscillators as well as a p4 which has no state 1 cells:

Code: Select all

x = 27, y = 24, rule = StruggleLife2
3.4A17.2C$.C.A2.A.C14.B2CB$.CB4.BC8$3.4A$2C.A2.A.2C$C3.2C3.C7$2.2A2.
2A$4.2A$3.A2.A$3.C2.C$4.2B!
Edited to add:

Oops, I just realised that the p3 and p6 also work in StruggleLife1 - in addition to which there's this p5:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 3, rule = StruggleLife1
2.A2.A$BC.2A.CB$B6.B!
I'm starting to feel that StruggleLife2 may not have developed the rule in a meaningful way other than killing off the exotic puffer. Oh well.

Ehh yes I meant something transient. No still life is left as "ash", thus "spark" would be better.

This update can be worse than StruggleLife2, but it shows some other plausible ideas. Methuselae contain more state 2 and 3 than in the previous update, but it stabilises fairly quickly and could potentially be more uninteresting/difficult to work with.

State 3 and 4 cells are certainly quite dominant in a lot of the behaviour of StruggleLife3. I'm not sure where to take this next, but in the meanwhile, here's a small p50 oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 7, rule = StruggleLife3

Back to the regular cells dominating a bit, but without losing the great potential for oscillators/spaceships. I'd say.
