You can switch to the rule "LifeHistory" and use the red cells.
Code: Select all
x = 41, y = 30, rule = LifeHistory
10.A$10.A.A$10.2A5$30.2A2.A.2A$29.A2.A2.2A$8.D4.D4.2D10.A.A$.D11.D.D
2.D.D10.A$.D11.2D3.2D17.A$.D6.D4.3D2.D16.3A$.2D5.D4.D2.D.2D14.A$2.3D
3.D4.D5.3D13.A$36.2A3$5.D4.D$.D3.D$.D3.D8.3D18.A$3D2.3D2.D3.D20.A$.D

You can also add comments to the pattern file by saving the pattern as a .rle file in your patterns folder, and opening it with a text editor. Then you can add comments to the top of the pattern by adding "#C" to the beginning of every line you want to comment on. The information is later accessible while viewing the pattern by pressing the button on the toolbar with an "i" on it.
Like this:
Code: Select all
#C This is a glider. It is the smallest spaceship in Conway's Game of Life.
#C It was discovered by Richard K. Guy in 1970.
x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
