B3678/S35678

Post by drc »

This rule is very interesting. It often generates high period oscillators, classified as pathological, like this p1320:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3678/S35678
obbooooooboooooo$
boobboobbboobobo$
bbobbobobobboboo$
oobbbbboobbobooo$
bbbbobbooooobboo$
obbobbbooboobboo$
ooobbbobooooooob$
ooooboobobbbbooo$
ooboboboooboooob$
obbboobbobooobob$
oboobooboooobobo$
oboboobobbbobobb$
oobboooobobbbbbo$
oboooboobooobbbb$
obobboboobooobob$
oobbobbooobooboo!
It also differs from Day & Night that it has an odd-period diagonal linear growth:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B3678/S35678
2b3o$b4o$7o$7o$8o$2b5o$2b5o$4bo2bo!
The only natural ships are this rare c/6 diagonal:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = B3678/S35678
b3o$2b2o$ob3o$2b3o$2b3o!
And a one-time occurrence of a 3c/340:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 9, rule = B3678/S35678
o8bo$b8o$b9o$b9o$11o$b9o$b9o$b8o$o8bo!
Here are all the oscillator periods:

Code: Select all

I gave up after that, but you're welcome to try!

Glider database reports 2 more really small spaceships, these being c/2 orthogonal:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 7, rule = B3678/S35678
2o$4o$3o9bob3obo$13b5o$3o9b3ob3o$4o9bo3bo$2o!
Using one window to apgsearch this, hope these two (and maybe something else weird?) come out of soup soon
Parity Replicator Collection v1.6 is now live - please send all relevant discoveries here.
