What are the highest period oscillators in each life like rule (without glider loops and infinitely extensible period oscillators)? I'll start:
B3/S234: p107
Code: Select all
x = 24, y = 24, rule = B3/S234

You'll find some ultra-high-period billiard tables in the wsearch results thread.
Also, you appear to have omitted the rightmost column of your oscillator.

That's right, the thread is
here, for example this oscillator that has a period of almost
2 million:
Code: Select all
#C p1894579 oscillator found with wsearch.
x = 10, y = 10, rule = B4578/S23458
b6o$obobo2bo$3o3bobo$6ob3o$6o3bo$6o3bo$o8bo$obobo2bobo$ob2o5bo$10o!
or this one that has a period of over
8 MILLION:
Code: Select all
#C p8605882 oscillator found with wsearch.
x = 10, y = 10, rule = B4578/S023458
2b5o$b2ob2obo$5o3bo$o2b2o2bobo$4obob3o$5o2b3o$3ob3o2bo$5o4bo$10o$10o!
and...
Code: Select all
#C p12774199 oscillator found with wsearch.
x = 10, y = 10, rule = B457/S023458
7o$ob3o2bo$2o3b2obo$2ob3o3bo$8obo$3obo3b2o$obob2o2b2o$8obo$obo2b3obo$
9o!
And let's save the best for last...
Code: Select all
#C p280049655 oscillator found with wsearch.
x = 11, y = 11, rule = B457/S023458

How do people even find and verify the periods of oscillators like that?

There's also this type of oscillator. This example has period of 65532.
Code: Select all
x = 64, y = 19, rule = B2/S0

They use wsearch, look on the thread that I posted, it is used to find oscillators of high periods in rules without gliders.
