What was the first (trivial) pattern ever observated by Conway & his team (that don't be the two duplexes and the dot, probably the first ones but also obviously worse ones ever)?
glider? r-pentomino? block?

Re: First pattern ever discovered in CGOL?
Conway explored a variety of rules, apparently based on the behavior of polyominoes, before settling on B3/S23. So, I'd guess the pre-block or blinker. We do know that the glider wasn't it, though; Richard Guy found it while evolving the R-pentomino.

Please someone lock this topic, since it's purpose has been filled (and expose it in LifeWiki instead of occupying server and screen space in ConwayLife forums).
