Glider Heisenburp based on Snark...?

Post by David »

I don't know how to make such large patterns, but this is worth to try to make, isn't it?

Heisenburps and reflectors use very different reactions.

Heisenburps try not to affect the glider, and therefore use reactions which touch it, possibly sightly dismanteling it but not affecting it's direction, speed or polarity. A glider passing through an heisenburp stays similar to a twin gilder which didn't. Heisenburps heavily use oscillators and guns (Usually QBs, GGGs, TBs and NGs)

Reflectors, on the other side, try to break the glider into a mass of junk to move it (usually with a G to B/R/H converter), to make it shoot a different glider, and to destroy it. The snark, however, skips the to B part. Stable reflectors, like the snark, only use still lifes.

Unlike M/HWSS, the glider lacks any big, accessible sparks (the belly spark) which allows the spaceship to interact with a still life without being itself affected, unlike the glider. Therefore, true stable heisenburps cannot exist with gliders.

Well, I think I made a language abuse: I just thought that snark can reduce herschel tracks used in the known p1 glider heisenburp.

True enough. Calcyman's P1 glider Heisenburp device predates the Snark by a couple of years, so it could certainly be reduced in size now. The majority of large engineered patterns could be shrunk significantly, for that matter.

Mind you, a smaller glider Heisenburp could have been built in 2011 with enough research, or just with a little more time spent combing through Hersrch results. Guam's basic pseudo-Heisenburp reaction quickly liberates three gliders and a Herschel --

Code: Select all

x = 144, y = 68, rule = LifeHistory

E2.E3.E6.E2$43.E3.E2.E.E.E2.E!
-- but Calcyman's design suppresses those early gliders and uses only the Herschel. No doubt there's a way to rebuild the five "bait" objects (three blocks and two beehives) more efficiently using some of those early output gliders, especially now that we can redirect them with Snarks.

This may not be the most interesting line of research, though! It seems very likely that there's a constellation with fewer than five "ash objects" that will regenerate a collided glider in exactly the right spacetime location, and also produce one or more output signals for rebuilding the constellation. Seems as if a three-object Heisenburp seed constellation ought to be out there somewhere, or possibly even just two objects plus a few catalysts.

Catalysts tend to get in the way of rebuilding, though, so maybe it's safer to hunt for a clean two- or three-object constellation. Then the big problem is coming up with a constellation that's really cheap to rebuild -- either by colliding gliders directly, or by converting gliders into Herschels that then feed Herschel-to-junk converters.

There are millions of Herschel-to-junk converters out there waiting to be discovered, catalogued, and tested. Quite possibly one of them builds a usable P1 Heisenburp constellation directly... Too many possibilities!
