When you post patterns, you post it with a code. I downloaded Golly but I see no place to paste the code in. Anyone help me out?

How to copy a pattern from ConwayLife.com and paste it to Golly: Select the pattern (a quick way is to click on SELECT ALL) open Golly and then menu Edit/Paste or key combination Control + V.

How to copy a pattern from Golly to ConwayLife.com: File/Save Pattern then open the saved file to access the code... and paste it here.

Actually you can just select the pattern in Golly, press Ctrl + C to copy, and then paste it here. No need to save it on your computer, but if it is really interesting you should likely save it anyway.

Thank you. One more question: how is this structure called? Wikipedia doesn't have it.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
b2o$o2bo$o2bo$b2o!

Rather than use Golly's Paste command, it's simpler and faster to use the "Open Clipboard" command (in the File menu). Only use Paste if you want to add the clipboard pattern to an existing pattern.

Thank you. Is this structure known:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 6, rule = B3/S23
b2o$o2bo$2obo$bob2o$bo2bo$2b2o!
?
No more questions :)
