B0137/S1

Post by Sphenocorona »

I've been really interested recently in rules with B0 and without S8. One interesting rule I found is B0137/S1. This rule is similar to Seeds in that despite the fact that it explodes with most patterns, it is still possible to make well behaved patterns like wicksretchers, complicated spaceships, rakes, and non-explosively chaotic puffers. And even when the rule does explode, it does so in the form of a soup of spaceships, replicators, and oscillators that continually bump into eachother, reversing directions, making oscillators, etc.

Here are a few rakes I found, as well as a failed rake:

Code: Select all

x = 605, y = 893, rule = B0137/S1

The one at the top is the first one I found, The one just a bit below I found after the two below it. The top two both occured naturally. I like how the second one is just a set of replicators so close together that they block off the ends of their copies, making spaceships.

The two that are side by side were inspired by the rake that was initially a puffer on the right. That one on the right was a puffer that produced both space ships and replicators. By halving the replicator column I made the one on the left. The right one got turned into a rake when trying to contain its output. I simply extended it out a bit to demonstrate its original form.

The one at bottom (labeled 'FAILED RAKE') is a spaceship that resulted from trying to increase the period of the rake above it by lengthening the replicator column. It does output spaceships but to allow for clean up of the replicators they have to be destroyed before they can reach the back.

And here are a few guns:

I would like to see guns for some of the non-naturally occuring space ships though, like the tiny period 2 spaceship.
