A new R-to-G:

Its catalysts don't get in the way of other conduits too much, but its output glider ruins every connection except this one, which I can't seem to trace back further:

Also, the lower catalyst seems surprisingly general for something coming out of a high-activity Bellman search, if anyone wants to see if it's applicable anywhere else.

Hi again!
Here is another lousy Hershel track of my own. Like last time, it can be stretched due to a conversion to 2 gliders. The main difference is that the glider pair comes from an healthy h-to-h segment, so this can to used for branching a stream of gliders:

I dont know if this could be used in stable signal constructions; however, the recovery time is too lame to be reported. Maybe there is a more efficient way to re-generate the initial block. Is there a good collection of "tracks" for X-to-block?

I don't know if there is a good organised collection but there is a dedicated thread for
Factories (including X-block). This
post is probably your best bet.
The G->block in the first post works, but it needs a colour changing reflector (shown with p8 reflector):

I'm sure this could be patched up with something stable, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Yeah, there are huge numbers of ways to patch this thing up, especially since the G+X->pi doesn't have to be a block. Could be a boat or a pond or a number of other less likely things, or a beehive:

Unfortunately no possible patch is going to be an improvement on just blocking off one of the two glider outputs, and putting a syringe on the other -- except in very special probably made-up cases where the exact timing of the extra output Herschel is the only thing that matters.
Using the first glider output to restore the still life is especially troublesome, because it badly damages the recovery time of the circuit. Probably better to turn it into a glider-triplet transceiver, since at least that doesn't have any issues with recovery time:

Sadly, the bar is set pretty high these days for glider-pair transceiver circuitry. Probably even if a catalyst could be dug up with Bellman to restore the bait still life, the resulting circuit would seldom get used for anything. The catalyst probably wouldn't be cheap to construct with gliders.
Even if it was, the glider pair is chirality-limited -- i.e., you're stuck attaching the receiver in one particular orientation. By contrast, if you reduce the pair to a single glider, you can add Snarks to reflect the signal before converting it, and then put on a syringe anywhere you want, in either orientation.
----------------------------
All that said, I think this is a really nice find. It's just about a decade behind where signal technology is these days. Maybe we should start a separate thread for "steampunk" Herschel circuitry, for people who would rather pretend that syringes don't exist...!

Before posting conduits like this, it's a good idea to check the
Elementary Conduit Collection to see if there is a way to get a signal into the input. In this case, there aren't really any ways to get signals into any of them, so they aren't really worth posting unless they are otherwise remarkable in some way (Same deal with the fourth one, but with the output - if there isn't really a way to get a standard signal out of it, it's not really worth posting). Also, the second conduit is the same the first conduit attached to a known H-to-FNG.

This, along with a few other new conduits, may warrant an update to the
H-to-H conduit collection, although I don't think there are quite enough conduits (2 or 3?) to warrant a complete update.
Just for the record, I grabbed the latest-I-think
(June 26) version of the H-to-H collection to include in Golly 3.0, instead of the incredibly out-of-date Herschel conduit stamp collection that's been in there since forever.
I made one tiny change where there was an overlapping label, and so I probably should have called it something else, but
I didn't... if anyone wants to make a really up-to-date version of this file, there's still a little time left before Golly 3.0 comes out -- but maybe not much!

A new version of Hersrch that can handle H-to-G-to-syringe transitions like this, would be really nice to have. We're getting close to having H-to-G conduit data compiled in a way that would allow this.
Unfortunately it still requires someone with a deep understanding of weird glider-lane math and a lot of spare time for bug-chasing, to actually write some kind of search program. The search tree increases in size so fast that it may be tough figuring out a workable approach.

Yes. In fact, it might be better to remove all transceivers from the collection, and make a separate collection of (non-syringe-based) transceivers, as the time and size limits prevent a lot of transceivers from being included in the normal H-to-H collection. I'll add the no-syringes rule to the original post, but I'm not sure about the transceivers yet. As far as I know, there are single-component receivers for G2, G4, G5, G6, G11, G13, and G22 excluding stuff like e.g. this G18-to-H/R, or other things with non-glider outputs:

gmc_nxtman wrote:... it might be better to remove all transceivers from the collection, and make a separate collection of (non-syringe-based) transceivers, as the time and size limits prevent a lot of transceivers from being included in the normal H-to-H collection.
I was just looking at the two yellow transceivers in the current H-to-H collection, and thinking that they probably didn't belong there. Yeah, let's just put them somewhere else.
Transceivers have always been the black sheep of the Herschel-conduit family. They've been known for ages -- over twenty years now -- but somehow they didn't make it into Golly's previous Herschel conduit collection either, or into the Life Lexicon's list of Herschel conduits. And nobody ever managed to work up a version of Hersrch that could deal with them even superficially... and they're kind of inadequately documented even on the LifeWiki.
So it has always been easy to for someone new to the subject to go through (what seems like) everything there is to know about Herschel conduits, and still completely miss hearing about the existence of Herschel transceivers.
Really they're usually pretty awkward to use because of the chirality problem. Their big theoretical draw was always that the classic transceiver is fairly easy to construct with gliders. But since eater2s have suddenly become slow-salvo-constructible objects, there now seem to be cheaper and smaller H-to-G and syringe-based solutions for about 99.9% of connection problems that might once have been solved by a transceiver.
It might be a good idea to direct any future research interest in this area toward finding something like a Spartan syringe, rather than coming up with tandem-glider receivers for even more lane separations. It's too bad, but the transceivers we've found so far always seem like they ought to come in useful somewhere, but then they never actually fit anywhere in practice.

There are some weak sparks:

Please re-read
gmc_nxtman's message.
It's not absolutely impossible for another conduit to place an output pi heptomino in that location.
But until you actually construct such a conduit (which will probably have to be fairly large and complex) there's not much point in posting a converter like this, because it can't be connected to any known signal outputs.
If a blinker is needed, or some "weak sparks", there are hundreds of known ways to produce them that are cheaper than this suggestion.

Chasing down an H-to-R here, but the cleanup is quite nasty. Would anyone like to take a crack at taming the upper half?

It actually seems easier than trying to find a non-transparent cleanup, honestly.

I could make it live a bit longer, but it seems really hard to fix.
It seems there is only a single R to B that work, which could become a R to H if the B-to-H block is killed, but is there anything else? If there is nothing else, there is an glider inbound to take care of...

I found some better stabilizations from the search, but nothing completely clean. The yellow eater in this version suppresses a bit of junk that looks like it'd be easy to make clean, but has been so resilient to cleanup that both CatForce (2 catalysts) and Bellman (max-active 9) haven't come up with a clean version. Not that it matters much, since the R output seems too finicky to use, per Jormungant.
