I did try it out. Neither "NE" nor "ND" is listed in Golly 4.2 help system, and neither is supported as a neighbourhood type.
I meant in Lifeviewer.
In that case, see
search.php?keywords=aligned+checkerboard
Code: Select all
x = 1, y = 1, rule = R3,C0,S,B1,NB
o!
#C [[ STARTFROM 1 ]]
Code: Select all

Is there a true period p12 glider gun in any two-state isotropic cellular automaton with Moore neighbourhood that supports period-12 glider streams? I think this space contains 2^78 cellular automata (representative B3-q4q/S23, optional birth/survival conditions B2i B3cekry B4aceijkntwyz B5aceijkqry B6 B7 B8 S0 S2cikn S3aceikqy S4aceijnqrtwyz S5 S6 S7 S8).

B3-q4q/S23, glider streams can be reduced to period 12 compared to 13 for B3-q/S23 and 14 for Life.
Code: Select all
x = 66, y = 7, rule = B3-q4q/S23
bo29bo29bo$2bo29bo29bo$3o27b3o27b3o$64bo$5bo27bobo29bo$3bobo28b2o27b3o
$4b2o28bo!
More unsolved questions: ("Glider" means the
xq4_153/b3s23 glider.)
Is there an integer
N >= 0 such that the following statement is true? If yes, what is the smallest such
N?
For every integer
p >= 14, a
true period p glider gun exists in some two-state isotropic CA with
Moore neighbourhood which is at most
N toggled isotropic birth/survival conditions away from Life.
- In Life (0 toggles), the missing glider gun periods are 14-19, 23, 26, 29, 31, 35, 38, 39, 47, 53.
- B3-c/S23 (1 toggle) has a p16 glider gun.
- B3/S236c (1 toggle) supports a p26 glider gun from B3/S236.
- ObliquePufferLife (B34q/S23-k, 2 toggles) has a p23 glider gun.
- Salad (3 toggles) has a p29 glider gun.
- B3-ckq/S2-c34ci (6 toggles) has loop guns with period >= 33.
- Wildfire (30 toggles) has a p18 glider gun, a p31 glider gun, guns with periods >= 21 and other stuff
Are there known true period guns with periods 14, 15, 17, 19?

is this the smallest known flamingoship in terms of bounding box in a generations rule? in this phase it fits inside a 5x5 box (and even vaguely resembles part of a flamingo

) and i couldn't find any smaller. i don't know how to search these kinds of things across all generations rules so if there's a way you could do that please let me know.
the only smaller one i could find is this one by muzik, but it isn't in a generations rule:

This appears to be a still life, so its speed is 0. However, if you were referring to the puffer below, its speed is 23c/490d:

High periods are impressive, but mostly for naturalistic objects. But 490 is astronomically high, so yes.

Has anyone found a rule where C1 contains every period of oscillator, and every speed of ship(even unreduced ones where it's non-trivial? The Hive-like rule from this post holds that property
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3120&start=900#p176061
Here are the stats, I am omitting most low-period stuff, but it still holds for them too. D2_+1, and D2_+2 have only the p652 ship. At least D2_x has something with the p270, p540, and p810 oscillators, and the original p494 ship(trivial). Also, all non-ship symmetries have all the oscillators except the p224, and a boring p8

Nay. For there to be every period of oscillator and spaceship, there has to be an infinite number of soups and objects, which is impossible.

Ah, I see how my wording was bad, I meant that all periods and speeds contained in the other symmetries are also contained in C1(while being nontrivial, eg. there are objects of the other Symmetries, and high period stuff), I did not mean that every period possible is in C1.

Yes. B/S012345678 is an example of such a rule. So is B3/S.

I would consider those to be trivial, B3/S seems to have only P2's, and B/S012345678 only still lives, so I would consider those to be super trivial. The most important thing is the rule contains a variety of oscillators, and ships, with high-period ones. It does not need the 30 or so this rule has, but it should pass as a reasonable rule to search

For an absolute baseline, it would need 5 periods, and something over period 10. But that is a super open baseline. I would like a rule that has at least 1 ship and at least 10 periods with some being over p20.

Other then B/S012345678, are there any other reversable INT CA?
toroidalet wrote: November 23rd, 2023, 2:21 pm
In addition to B/S012345678, I know that the following rules are reversible: B1357/S1357, B1357/S2468, B1e2ak3einqy4jnry5einqy6ak7e/S1e2ak3einqy4jnry5einqy6ak7e (B13/S13V), B1e2ak3einqy4jnry5einqy6ak7e/S01c2-ak3-einqy4-jnry5-einqy6-ak7c8 (B13/S024V), B1c2ak3-einqy4jnry5-einqy6ak7c/S1c2ak3-einqy4jnry5-einqy6ak7c (B13/S13V with corner cells) and B1c2ak3-einqy4jnry5-einqy6ak7c/S01e2-ak3einqy4-jnry5einqy6-ak7e8 (B13/S024V with corner cells).
Additionally, the B0 versions of those rules are also reversible: B012345678/S, B02468/S02468, B02468/S1357, B01c2-ak3-einqy4-jnry5-einqy6-ak7c8/S01c2-ak3-einqy4-jnry5-einqy6-ak7c8, B1e2ak3einqy4jnry5einqy6ak7e/S01c2-ak3-einqy4-jnry5-einqy6-ak7c8, B01e2-ak3einqy4-jnry5einqy6-ak7e8/S01e2-ak3einqy4-jnry5einqy6-ak7e8 and B01e2-ak3einqy4-jnry5einqy6-ak7e8/S1c2ak3-einqy4jnry5-einqy6ak7c.
Note that for all the replicator rules, a predecessor is guaranteed (even if the pattern is infinite) but it may not necessarily be unique. While for finite patterns the existence of two different patterns with the same descendant guarantees the existence of a garden of Eden, this is not the case for infinite patterns. See
this post for more information.

I'd say a (15,2)c/2023 oblique spaceship could be described as a sqrt229leapership, as its Euclidean displacement distance is the square root of 229, and it's otherwise bound to be a nameless leaper. Compare
