How do you explain this? It is stable (unlike 6 bits) and extensible (unlike SKOP 134). I think that it is a loop, temporially at least.

The Jubjub reflector being stable doesn't say anything at all about whether a Jubjub shuttle is a hassler or not. There must be many dozens if not hundreds of hasslers by this time, that use nothing but stable catalysts. Check out Tanner's p46 on the pi-heptomino hasslers page, for example, and then just look around and you'll find plenty of other examples.

By 'temporially', I assume you mean 'temporally' in the sense 'the sequence of phases is looped in time'. That trivially holds for every single oscillator. The blinker, the toad, the clock, the caterer, various barberpoles, billiard tables, hasslers, shuttles, quasi-shuttles, OMOSes, RROs, RCT-based oscillators, and so on, and so forth.
The blinker is not a loop oscillator.
A shuttle made out of two 180-degree same-lane reflectors and a single glider is not a loop oscillator, either.

Hmm... Do Conduit loops count as hasslers? If there is only 1 active reaction, it reappears twice or more or forms a different conduit active region (B - P conduit) and no spark interactions, it probably does not count. Therefore, Tanner p46 is not a hassler, as much as p256 gun is a H hassler.

I think a closed track with exactly one active object "X" does count as an X hassler. (However, it is not necessarily a good idea to describe it so. In most cases there will be a more specific term to describe those oscillators.)

Closed tracks with two or more noninteracting active objects do not feel like hasslers to me.

This is not really specific to conduits/tracks. Trivially welding together two hasslers or two copies of a hassler does not make an oscillator that feels like a single hassler oscillator:

Code: Select all

#C This is not a hassler,
#C because it is two hasslers
x = 15, y = 43, rule = B3/S23

I don't know what you mean by "by extension". Cap the glider gun to make it an oscillator, and both patterns are hasslers. (Hasslers of what exactly is another question.)

Code: Select all

Simkin glider gun with one barrel capped

Code: Select all

Tanner's p46
