Is a fully-P3 hotcrystal0 reflector possible? The closest I have is this doubler.

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 20, rule = B3/S23

This is something that's been floating in my backlogs for a while, but there's this pi+block collision that it might be possible to make transparent and turn into a conduit. It's especially noteworthy because it produces a new Pi with such a narrow active area around it that it can feed into the notoriously unworkable PF*39C, a feat that even BR176P can't achieve (I've also included a nice P->H by Kazyan that can only connect to BR176P in one orientation, but could be ambidextrous with a hypothetical conduit based on this reaction):

Running CatForce on the catalysts at the very start of HLx111R, the following two variations seem like they have potential:

I'm not a conduits guy, so I'm not sure if this is useful, probably not. The output herschel's FNG must be suppressed or it ruins the reaction. The glider output can probably be put into a semi-snark if a more usable glider output is desired.

...No, I would not call it "future" because it could have been found around the same time the periodic Lx65 was discovered, which has the same spark interaction and a similar eater placement that cleans the B-heptomino's block instead of leaving it. There is even a long-known R64_Lx65 Herschel splitter/duplicator based on the spark interaction.

Notably, a hypothetical stable (what would be properly called "future" in my opinion since such catalysis is unknown) left-turning H-to-B converter in 45 ticks could be both flippling (HLx45B) and not flipping (HL45B). The not-flipping mechanism was mentioned here and here.

Hmm, interesting. It makes a reasonably nice inline (no gliders needed) suppressor for two Herschel/B-heptomino signals out of three:

I haven't thought of any situations where that would be particularly useful, really, given all the other period triplers we have (I've added this one in)... but that doesn't mean there isn't something out there. The tripling mechanism is small enough that it could conceivably improve the size of some gun somewhere, if the geometry happened to be right -- normally a tremi-Snark will be smaller, but strange things can happen when guns' bounding boxes have weird-shaped empty corners.

Cross-posting from Discord:

This is a Herschel-to-V-spark converter with good clearance, repeat time 63, posted by iNoMed on 4 December 2023:

Code: Select all

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but it doesn't seem impossible that a V-spark-to-X converter might show up someday -- so maybe this thread is good enough.

Meanwhile, this enables oscillators supporting hive five for all periods 63 and above.

63 is quite close to 61, the repeat time of the speed tunnel, which is kinda sorta as low as you can go with an engineered X-to-V-spark converter where a single signal gets split and synchronized to make a V. Of course it can be done directly with guns, for any period we have a true-period gun for.

... Wait, why are we wanting to add high fives to every possible oscillator, anyway? Seems like it's mostly a kind of snowball effect from an offhand mention of supporting oscillator periods in the high five article.
