For example, one parity of a glider can be divided into two Still-Life Compatible 3x3s. It doesn't do any good to go to N>3, because you could still build a glider with two SLC tiles for any size N. So how do we make sure that we can build all still lifes and nothing but still lifes using this set?
Actually, it's really easy to mess up(i.e. build a non-still-life) with only tiling. If you restrict the tiles so that tiling up makes only still lifes,
i) Obviously you'll need to include the blank tile.
ii) If a tile T is in the set, then tile T surrounded by blank tiles should be stable, so tile T should be stable itself.
iii) If a tile T is in the set, then the plane tiled by T should be stable.
ii) and iii) restricts the tiles a LOT. I don't think most of the still lifes can be covered by these tiles at all. i.e. Can you build a Long^n table with sufficiently big n with NxN tiles that satisfy ii) and iii)?

EDIT: And that means you should restrict the neighbor tiles a tile can have.

That's been mentioned before, although it's not in the elementary conduits collection (presumably because there isn't an X->G9 that produces correctly-spaced gliders)

Speaking of the collection, does this R->B have an input?

Surprisingly, yes. It''s used in one of the very useful old L156 variants that sends an extra glider forward relative to the output Herschel.

Partial tandem g6 -> junk with bait recovery. The bait reconvers only for a short time. Can anything be done with it?

A traffic light can be hassled at p21, though currently I only know how to do it with two p21 glider streams. However it can be mimicked by other patterns, so maybe there's some way to make a smaller oscillator:

The closest I've got to a HWSS-to-X which is not even close...

But I think just rebuilding the block with snarks would be way faster if you ask me.

(By the way, this was just a spartan search, so there would be more if one use non-spartan catalysts.)

@BlinkerSpawn Just in case if you tried something after reading this part of my post...
I wrote:But I think just rebuilding the block with snarks would be way faster if you ask me.
Sorry for the misleading wording. I meant this by: "Rather than using a messy block-restoring reaction, we could just use a clean sacrificial block reaction, and then just rebuild the block with snarks etc..."

If not, um your second reaction would be workable if it weren't for the sacrificial block... But if the reaction eventually needs a block to restore, I think using a sacrificial block in the first place would be cheaper... (especially because that mess seems hard to clean)

EDIT: Oh thunk has made an HWSS to G. Didn't notice.

Or maybe somebody can use the spark of the sparky HWSS eater?
