Try starting with the LifeWiki articles about rules -- e.g.,Marjamjelly wrote: January 26th, 2024, 7:31 pm I am looking for information on other rules besides B3/S23, and what B3/S23 even means. I know that the numbers represent the birth/death values for cells, but I am looking for more info. I’ve also noticed that in some of the RLE files in posts have rules that are words or phrases. What is that all about?
Help is greatly appreciated.
Life-like rule
Isotropic non-totalistic rule
Larger than Life
-- and maybe also the Golly Help file about the types of rule formats that Golly can read.
The words or phrases that you mentioned are usually going to be either aliases for specific Life-like or isotropic or Larger-than-Life rules, or they'll be custom-defined "RuleLoader" rules. Sometimes RuleLoader rules use different neighborhoods than the usual eight neighbors, and/or they'll often use more than just two cell states.
You can look up a rule on the LifeWiki in the OCA namespace -- e.g., OCA:Amoeba -- or find the actual rule definition for a RuleLoader rule by looking in the Rule namespace -- e.g., Rule:ZombifiedLife.
