Those are fuses, not crawlers. A crawler has to be reuseable (outputs it’s own still life or oscillator base behind it).

Doing some more work on the boat and T reaction, found this thing that shifts the boat 2 cells, but very quickly.

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5
7b2o$7bobo$2o6bo$obo$b2o3$9b3o$10bo!
This one makes a C, which is useless but interesting.

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 13, rule = B3/S23-a5

Another fuse, this one is very dirty:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 174, rule = B3/S23-a5
3o$3o8$12bo$12bo$12bo$12bo8$3o$3o8$12bo$12bo$12bo$12bo8$3o$3o8$12bo$12b

3o$3o8$12bo$12bo$12bo$12bo8$3o$3o8$12bo$12bo$12bo$12bo8$3o$3o8$12bo$12b
o$12bo$12bo8$3o$3o9$3bo$b2ob2o$2bobo$3bo!
It produces a lot of spaceships, so although unlikely, perhaps we could make a self-supporting spaceship from it?
Also, hc0, I have noticed you have done some hauls for this rule. But unfortunately, the version you are using has bad separation and keeps recognizing groups of spaceships as 1 spaceship. If you are going to do hauls, please try to use a version that does not have faulty separation.

How many spaceships are known in this rule that are 20 cells or less?

for c/2 there are 8:

for c/4d there is 1:

I am considering renaming this thread to "Travelling Ts and its variants", because I want to investigate B37/S23-a5 (C doesn't work), and B3/S23-a57 (more chaotic). Can someone apgsearch B37/S23-a5 and B3/S23-a57?

Code: Select all

both of those new rules seem very interesting, and if you made this thread travelling Ts and its variants then i will contribute to both new rules. For example, there is a simple T insertion that has the minimum repeat time possible in B3/S23-a57:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 11, rule = B3/S23-a57

I have been doing some c/3 searches in RLifeSrc, and have proved 3 things in this rule:
A c/3 spaceship must be at least 9 cells long.
A c/3 spaceship must be at least 13 cells wide.
A c/3 spaceship cannot fit in a 15x15 bounding box.
I also found a 9-cell long c/3 spaceship, proving that 9 cells is the minimum length for a c/3 spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 61, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5
8bo43bo$2b2o2b2obo41bob2o2b2o$bob2o4b2o39b2o4b2obo$b2o2bobob2o2bo3bo3b

5ob2o7b3o$2o3b2o2bob3o2bo2bo4bo2bobobobo2bo4bo2bo2b3obo2b2o3b2o$4b2o12b
ob2obo13bob2obo12b2o$9b2o3bo31bo3b2o$12bo10b2o11b2o10bo!
At 132 cells, it is pretty small for a c/5 spaceship. Note: the search did not find the spaceship directly, it found the left 3/4 of it and could not complete it because it was doing a 9x50 search.
Also, here is a p50 'p25s hassling big blinker' smaller than the one on SKOPs.

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 18, rule = B3/S23-a5
26bo4bo$25b2o4b2o$24bobo4bobo$23b3o6b3o3$3bo4bo$2b2o4b2o7bo$bobo4bobo

o$2b2o4b2o$3bo4bo!
And a p75 (25,3) LCM:

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 14, rule = B3/S23-a5

This is the C with flap:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 7, rule = B3/S23-a5
2bo$2ob2o$bobo2$o$b5o$b2obo!
This is the bee:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 7, rule = B3/S23-a5
3bo$2b2o$5bobo$3o5b2o$5bobo$2b2o$3bo!
I am struggling to think of a name for this:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 10, rule = B3/S23-a5
b2o$2ob2o$2obo2$3bo$5bo$4bob2o$4bobo2$6bo!
For now, it is 17P2H1V0.
Interestingly, the C with flap is more common that 17P2H1V0 in C2_2, but less common in C1. Probably just a random thing, but still interesting.
The bee is around 1 in 1.55 billion, 17P2H1V0 is around 1 in 1.6 billion, and C with flap is around 1 in 1.95 billion.

R2INT, can you get C1 to 8 billion (or even 9 billion) objects? Also, can you get C2_4 to 100 million objects? I want to see another spaceship appear naturally, and also if any new objects appear. You never know, perhaps there is some prime period oscillator with C2_4 symmetry in this rule, just waiting to appear.
Anyone else who would like to help, please do! (but please use v5.x, as the separation is terrible in v1.x). :)

We do not have any small D2_+2 c/2 spaceships, so I did a search for them, and found that the three 32-cell ones below are tied as the smallest D2_+2 spaceships.

What’s the lowest known (T or glider) gun period in this rule?

I have an idea to create logarithmic growth, using a mechanism similar to the Caber tosser:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 86, rule = B3/S23-a5
3o$2ob2o$2b2ob2o$2b3obo$5bo$2o$3bo$3bo2$2b3o$2bobo$2b3o3$bobobo$2bobo$

o$b3o$b3o23$3bo$2b3o$2b3o17$bo$3o$3o!
At the south of the pattern, glider guns will create the salvo of Ts, but there will be some additional mechanism which prevents the creation of all of the Ts (perhaps T guns aimed at one of the T-creating gliders). The returning T will be reflected and remove all of the Ts that shoot down the gliders, which causes a salvo of Ts to be fired at the receding c/5o spaceship. Since a T is fired to the east each cycle, the population should grow proportionate to O(log N).

Interesting. I am going to do some work on that later today.
Also, we will probably only need 1 or 2 blocking guns, because you can make the first collision leave debris that the second one has to destroy.

Making a sublinear growth pattern from that would be difficult, as the T ends up on the same lane that it started on.

Edit: At least the oscillator can reflect gliders:

Unfortunately not, but you can make a p96 gun: (a p32 gun with p48 filter)

Code: Select all

x = 129, y = 94, rule = B3/S23-a5
