Perhaps it's just a matter of terminology, and what you mean is a single-glider collision that not only “destroys” the pattern, but kills all the cells in it, leaving no survivors or descendants.

There are a lot of patterns that can be killed with just one glider. If the pattern exhibits periodicity in one direction, then it's called a fuse/wick. Examples of patterns erased by glider collisions can be found too in those large spaceships that “move” by creating a copy of themselves in another location, via construction arms, and then erase the previous instance.

Wait, what? I tried to get rid of an unknown unstable pattern, but the Eaters got altered. In cases like this up to now, the Eaters have been destroyed, but this is truly astonishing.

Sorry, I worded that very badly. What I meant to say was that I think I may have found a pattern that cannot be destroyed by **two gliders**, but I failed to include the word "two" in my post.

Also, by "destroyed" I didn't mean that an individual glider collision has to leave the pattern unchanged. I meant *glider destruction* in the sense used here:

https://conwaylife.com/wiki/Glider_destruction

In other words, I suspect that this may be a still life for which no two-glider destruction exists.

Sorry for the confusion.

It's known, but from what I seem to remember, it's quite recent, being discovered well after any of its components.

Hi! I am new here. I was running apgsearch and i think i found 2 strict still lifes:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
3bo$b3o$o$bo$2bo$3bobo$4b2o!
I would call this first one a **long canoe with tail** (apgcode: xs11_4a3sz123).

And the second one:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$2bo2bo$3bobo$bob2o$obo$obo$bo!
I would call this second one a **beehive pseudo-loaf** (apgcode: xs14_g8id96z121).

Has anyone encountered these specific variants or used these names before? Thanks!

Since there was no P180 glider gun on life wiki, I tried making it using three different methods.

I thought there was already a smaller P180 glider gun. I think I need to add this to the life wiki guns category.

The LWSS converter using a boat-bit. The first glider becomes a boat, and four gliders turn the boat into LWSS. The repeat time is 73.

This might be known. All options for the R + dot/domino spark to preserve itself. The left ones could lead to p47 and p31 oscillator if we would have suitable sparker. (will will work glider supported.), and then two further tracks. the last seems to work with a p37 MWSS gun, but it would interact.

So, I found a glider mutation that creates a methuselah that lasts 1102 generations before it stabilizes into still life's, blinkers, and during the 1102 generations, it launches 6 new gliders, first one at 68, then 102, then 120, then 135, then 189, then 698. Apparently late glider launches are rare (?) Anyway, this is the shape you start with:

Is this new? Has anybody tried this before?

Welcome to the forums!
This pattern is generation 1 of the R-pentomino:

Code: Select all

#C [[ STOP 1 ]]
x = 3, y = 3, rule = B3/S23
b2o$2o$bo!
Generally, you should share your patterns in RLE format, like what I did above, and then put them in pattern tags:

Code: Select all

[pattern]RLE here[/pattern]
