Well, I didn't say the CA needs to be two-state. There might be something interesting with multiple cellstates.
With triangular tiling, one could argue that there are two different neighbourhoods, one used only for triangles "pointing north", another used only for triangles "pointing south". The difference can be ignored if the rules are completely isotropic; otherwise things can become complicated and differently oriented triangular cells can follow different rules.

confocaloid wrote: December 7th, 2024, 7:44 am I think it would be interesting to understand what is possible if every cell has just three neighbours (and the neighbourhood stays the same for all cells in all generations). Would it be possible to make a closed track with spaceships circulating between several converters? Would it be possible to make a gun? Would it be possible to communicate information in all directions?
In triangle edge neighborhood (which each cell has 3 neighbors) I cannot find any rule which has an even a single spaceship, let alone reflectors and guns. [...]
Using the first neighborhood you mentioned, this rule would explode if patterns could escape from bounding box: [...]
Using the second neighborhood you mentioned, this rule would also explode if patterns could escape from bounding box: [...]

Why are B0 Generations rules on squares not supported, but on triangles it is?

There is a family of bounded grid oscillators (Tn, 3*2^(n-3), n>2)
Finite oscillators are disproven. There are infinitely many still lifes. In fact, all patterns that use only state-2 cells are still lives.

is life omnisumperiodic?

a patterns sumperiod is all unique periods in it added together.

statorless patterns (ones with only one period) have the same sumperiod as period

most p2 oscillators (unless pheonix) have a sumperiod of 3 because 1+2=3

for an example, beacons have p1 and p2, p1+p2=sp3

this pattern is p6 and sp6 because lcm(2,3)=6 and 1+2+3=6

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 6, rule = B3/S23
7bo$5bo3b4o$5bo3bo$5bo$8bo$3o3b2o!
this pattern is p30 and sp21 because 1+2+3+15=21

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 7, rule = B3/S23
22bo$20bo3b4o$20bo3bo$20bo$2bo4bo15bo$2ob4ob2o5b3o3b2o$2bo4bo!
got my point? omnisumperiodic is omniperiodic but with sumperiods.

is life omnisumperiodic?

If I understand correctly, a non-statorless "volmatchstrict" oscillator with period N > 1 automatically has "sumperiod" N+1, from the definitions. Then the answer will follow by combining the existence of non-statorless "volmatchstrict" oscillators of all periods and the existence of p2 phoenices.

A repeating five-digit sequence is slightly suspicious, but really the sample is indeed too short to tell whether that's accidental and what that means.

There is a great chance that it can be tokenized simply (2 digit for a letter).
In this situation, a 19-letter word is impossible, so "4453" has a great chance to be E and space.
