I made this two years ago, (when I first discovered Conway's Game of Life) but then found on the wiki that it was just essentially four candelabras.

I was messing around with p46 shuttles, here is some stuff I found. Most of it is probably known. I compiled it into a big p92 para-hooks factory.

LWSS->G by its own right is very cool. Adding some eater to B to cancel it out, while keeping the LWSS->G will still be cool discovery.

Why does the wiki have a five-glider destruction of the Gosper Glider Gun when only two gliders are needed? (the escaping glider was created by the gun)

Not really clean, simply because of that glider. However it may be useful if an output glider is wanted for further destruction.

For now, 3-glider destruction:

Code: Select all

x = 49, y = 33, rule = B3/S23
36bobo$36b2o$37bo9bo$46bo$46b3o15$5bo$6b2o$5b2o3$10bo$10b4o$11b4o10b2o
$2o9bo2bo9bobo$2o9b4o8b3o8b2o$10b4o8b3o9b2o$10bo12b3o$24bobo$25b2o!
This collision produces a big S:

Code: Select all

x = 51, y = 33, rule = B3/S23

2 "double PIs" colliding in a symmetrical way (fig 1) creates a large pattern (fig 2) made with 2 large on-offs that looks fairly difficult to synthetize the "normal way". By adding a few stabilisators (fig 3) you get a very big billard-table with few gliders (warning: uselessly big stabilisation alert), in a very elegant way. I am a few terameters away from saying I'm a pro in synthesis, but the reaction creates very little sparks in the zone for several generations, and therefore it looks doable.

The Semifore (synthesis: http://codercontest.com/mniemiec/lg/30pd2bc2.rle) is probably a good starting place. It shouldn't be too hard to add a second siamese one, with the two sharing one pond. From there, it shouldn't be too hard to peel the outer ponds (or perhaps loaves, if they are easier to work with) and wrap them around the beacons.

By semifore you mean this one, right?

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B3/S23

Not quite. The end stabilizers should be beacons. I think the name comes from the fact that the rotor bits flip back and forth between the beacons and the space between the four objects. It was mentioned in Lifeline #3, but it isn't in the wiki or the glossary. It works the same whether the side still-lifes are ponds or loaves. The second image is two siamese ones that might be a viable predecessor.

Code: Select all

x = 30, y = 14, rule = B3/S23

I'm confused, the evolution line I posted was actually to give a possible predecessor of the one I posted, to prevent the need of all these steps. Did we misunderstand each other?

A very simple predecessor of a weird p3:

Code: Select all

x = 38, y = 38, rule = B3/S23

Useless predecessor of a p4:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 7, rule = B3/S23

What you posted was a "natural" predecessor that evolves into the oscillator, but may not be easy to synthesize. My idea is something that is definitely synthesizable (one sided), and possibly synthesizable (two sided), with a possible method for how to convert it into the same oscillator, using artificial means.

Nice! I would call this "four pulsar quadrants framing four candelabras". The pieces are definitely synthesizable, but I'm not sure they could all be easily brought together at once. I'll look into it.

Furthermore, generation 31 of this (if you remove the debris clouds in the corners) looks almost identical to one of the steps in the evolution period-6 oscillator you recently posted in the Soup Results thread. This could be transformed into it by removing two empty rows and two empty columns from the middle, and putting a block in the middle. Unfortunately, the corners interact with each other at generation 26, so this doesn't work. However, if another predecessor to the corner pieces could be found, perhaps two of these could be combined with two of those to make the period-6 work.

This can currently be synthesized with 16 gliders. I doubt that trying to form this predecessor would be any cheaper.

Absolutely useless way to make a figure 8:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

Flip a boat:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 10, rule = B3/S23

I got it, you are trying to equal the "brute force synthesis" using known technology.
