Very stable totalistic CA B47/S234. There are a surprising number of different oscillator rotors, which I've tried to categorise in a stamp collection:

I also found that if you make an extended beehive-looking thing and add one cell inside it, the cells show replicator-like behavior within the pattern. This is hard to explain, so here's an example p62:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 14, rule = B47/S234
bo$obo$3o$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$obo$bo!
EDIT:
Another rule, B3-e/S23 that is similar to Life but has these rather common pi-related puffers:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 11, rule = B3-e/S23
bo$obo$bo2$6b3o$8bo$6b3o2$bo$obo$bo!
Soups in this rule tend to go very far outside their bounding boxes, in contrast to the other rule.
The procrastinator is a common c/14d spaceship in this rule and also a heptomino in one of its phases:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = B3-e/S23
2bo$2bo$b2o$2o$o!
There's also lots (but not too many) different common still lifes, many of which work in Life and some that don't.
Here are some cool ones:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 10, rule = B3-e/S23
$2b2o$bo2bo$bob2o$2o$2b3o$2bo2bo$3b2o$6b$6b$
2bob2o$bob2obo$o5bo$b3obo$3b2o!
As for oscillators, I haven't really tested to see if ones from Life work in this rule, other than blinkers and toads.
Herschels and Bs are very uninteresting in this rule.

The reason it's so stable is because it does not have B3, B2 or B1 (or B0?), which makes it impossible for patterns to escape their bounding box. Also see Life-like_cellular_automaton#Description.

Does that mean spaceships are impossible in that rule?
And on an unrelated note, what do wiki tags do?

1. Yes, spaceships are impossible in that rule.
2. They link to the LifeWiki article with the name that is inside the tags. e.g. Main Page

Note that 124/4567/2 is equivalent to "B4567/S124". This rule also don't have spaceships, due to the absence of B0/B1/B2/B3.

By the way, here's a clean C/7 fuse:

This rule B3aijqy4kw5cinry6ik/S2ik3ai4ar5ijnq6ac7e8 is quite interesting.
The main attraction, in my opinion, are the weirdly high periods objects may possess.
For example: here's a natural p525:

Code: Select all

x = 30, y = 15, rule = B3aijqy4kw5cinry6ik/S2ik3ai4ar5ijnq6ac7e8

2b2obo2bo2b2o$10b3o3$2o26b2o$2o26b2o!
p111:

Code: Select all

x = 51, y = 51, rule = B3aijqy4kw5cinry6ik/S2ik3ai4ar5ijnq6ac7e8

In the spaceship department, we have a small c/73:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 20, rule = B3aijqy4kw5cinry6ik/S2ik3ai4ar5ijnq6ac7e8

3bo3bo3bo4bo3bo3bo$5bo16bo2$13b2o!
It's overshadowed by a common 2c/19o, though.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 10, rule = B3aijqy4kw5cinry6ik/S2ik3ai4ar5ijnq6ac7e8
b2o$b2o$b2o$b2o2$b2o$b2o$4o$b2o$b2o!
Rulegolfing, using this rule as a base, also tends to be quite fruitful.
A few steps down the line, you'll find a p982 natural oscillator, among other things:

Code: Select all

x = 55, y = 24, rule = B3-cknr4kw5-aekq6ik/S2ik3ai4aqr5ijnq6ac7e8

B35y/S12-ci3y5 is omniperiodic, because a margolus 2x2 turned into a 1x1 behaves the same as it does in 2x2 but at 2x the speed. 2x2 gives all even periods, so this is omniperiodic.

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = b35ys12-ci3y5
!
[[ RANDOMIZE ]]
Can someone make it a little more chaotic, while still having omniperiodicity?
Edit: did myself.

this is my life-like CA.
I suspect it is turing complete. find what you can. :mrgreen:
Note that 124/4567/2 is equivalent to "B4567/S124". This rule also don't have spaceships, due to the absence of B0/B1/B2/B3.

By the way, here's a clean C/7 fuse:

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 4, rule = B4567/S124

I found one, too. It's c/1, and clears the fuse very quickly.

There's a button labeled "pattern" at the second rightmost of the bar at top of Smilies (basically emojis if you don't know) bar.
Click it to summon a pattern tag: Copy the pattern from LifeViewer or any simulation software you use. If you cannot find that button, simply Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C.
Then paste the pattern between the pattern tags:

Code: Select all

          v Insert RLE here
[pattern]   [/pattern]
Here you go.

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 4, rule = B4567/S124
12bo$13b18o2b2o$31b3o$13o20b2o!
Optionally, you could use code tags (button labeled </>), they behave the exact same:

The rule: namespace is where ruletables and ruletrees are stored on LifeWiki. They can then be directly accessed by LifeViewer.
You can find a list here: List of rule tables on LifeWiki.

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 13, rule = C
8.2X2.3X.3X.X.X$8.X.X.X3.X3.X.X$8.X.X.3X.3X.X.X$8.2X2.X5.X.X.X$8.X.X.
