There are two types of spaces, a pond and a 2-cell break (two empty rows between words). A break is used to separate words in a phrase, while a pond is used everywhere else.

Punctuation marks:

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 14, rule = LifeHistory
$6.2D6.D$8.D5.D$7.D6.D2$7.D6.D7.D8.D$30.D2$6.2A6.2A$5.A.A5.A.A6.2A$5.

2A!
A period is a table, a question mark is a dock, an exclamation mark is a bookend, and a comma is a 3-cell break with a State 3 cell in the middle. After a sentence is ended, put a 2-cell break before starting the next sentence.

To express spaceships, in the aPbHcVd.e format, blocks are used to separate the "terms". As an example, here's Spaghetti monster:

Code: Select all

x = 41, y = 6, rule = LifeHistory
7.C3.C3.C6.C6.C6.C$6.A.A.ADA.A.A4.ADA4.ADA4.A.A$6.ADA.ADA.ADA4.ADA4.A

A.A.2A.A.A.2A.A.A.2E$7.A3.A3.A6.A6.A6.A!
To express oscillators or still lives, use a 2-cell break, the oscillator/still life in States 3 and 4, and then another 2-cell break. If the oscillator is large, then you can use the aPb.c format instead.

Methods of writing

TNCN (used by Tommyaweosme the most): using the phonotactics chart
Names: using the still life names
Abbreviations (used by me the most): using two-letter abbreviations for the SL names
Actual (Longwriting): actually using CGoL to write it; without turns
Actual (Turnwriting): actually using CGoL to write it; with turns to separate the subject, verb, and object. When turning, a loaf replaces a pond. (direction is →↓←↓→↓←↓)

you should add quotation marks to reference a specific object and put the object there to literally refer to the object

I don’t want this to look too much like a programming language, so instead, if you want to refer to a specific object, you add a 2-cell break, then that object in States 3 and 4, and another 2-cell break. Note that it counts as one word, so pond spaces are still used.

turnwriting was originally turn wherever you want however you want to make any shape, or even intricate looping sentences and branching sentences and merging sentences and cool stuff like 2 sentences merging in the middle and cool shapes
here's the gosper glider gun

Code: Select all

I think it’s finally time to add pronunciation. Since vowels aren’t supposed to be written, the color of an object now determines what vowel follows it: no vowel, /a/, /ɪ/ (or /e/ when long), /i/, /o/, and /u/.
