How would one go about finding c/2 objects that are of strange periods? (like 22 or 34, for example?) I'm asking because I would like to find a puffer that can output these dots, or at least something that can be perturbed into a rake:

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 1, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e
obo3bo4bo3bo4bo!
Or for other similar (preferably over c/2) fuses.

I'm sorry I don't have more content in these last few posts, I suck at syntheses, but I want to contribute to this rule.

EDIT: To (possibly) make up for that, have another sideways R-push, this time using 2:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 14, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e
3o$2bo$b2o3$10bo3$10bo2$2bo$3bo$3b2o$2b2o!
As well as this 2dots->T flyby:

Code: Select all

x = 27, y = 6, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e
10bo2bo9bo2bo3$b2o$2bo$3o!

I am mainly responding on two posts of danny:

Don't worry there are many things to do. E,g. you could build these three guns:

A snowflake signal can be transformed into a G/R. Maybe there is a simpler reconstruction with G's and R's but I did not find any. In general, I there are better ways for transforming a snowflake signal into a G/R.

The dot has to be inserted very quickly, somehow by oscillators which interact with some still lifes and potentially the G (as in second case) such that the dot has the right position. Alternative we could somehow side-shoot G/R's with period of 34 to insert the dot. If we have such a collision that works we can copy it with phase shift of 17 on the other side. A p34 gun should be feasible, but p17 is hard.
The third figure is a reduction of this oscillator, esp. this p17 sparker.

I'm wondering, should the goal for syntheses be taken up to <2 gliders per bit, to account for dots? Or maybe it would be <1 gliders per bit that is not a dot, but <2 gliders per bit that is a dot.

Note that I think R's should be counted as gliders, too.

Anyway, Z-tie in 6R:

Code: Select all

Z-tie-Gull(?) in 6R:

I wonder at some of the larger still life names, like this 6R 'Z-tie on dot on Z':

How do I put this rule into apgsearch? When I put it in, it just takes out aaaaaaaaaaall of the letters and just turns it into B2348/S0234567. (B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e --> B2348/S0234567) How do I fix this???

If you're using Python, get this hacked version of apgsearch: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1480&p=25942#p25942
Otherwise, get apgsearch 4 (apgluxe): https://gitlab.com/apgoucher/apgmera
This LifeWiki page explains it better: http://conwaylife.com/wiki/Tutorials/Co ... _Catagolue

Nice! I feel like this is a lead on a gun that generates two close R-gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 28, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e
25b2o$21b2o3bo$15bo5bo4b2o$19bo4bo$17b2o4bo$16b2o5bo$16bo6bo3bo$16b2o

$2bo9b3o$14bo3bo$20bo$7bobobo7b2o5$3bobobo2$o$3o$2bo3bo!
I, of course, used AbhpzTa's reduced gun, but couldn't work out anything with still lifes or the regenerating p3 (Any ideas what to call that thing?)

I found a very interesting p2+dot eater which works in both phases:

Code: Select all

x = 27, y = 15, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e
2bo5bo$3o3b3o10b2o3b3o$o5bo5bo5b2obo2bo$2bo5bo10b2o3b2o$b2o4b2o6$2bo5b
o$3o3b3o10b2o3b3o$o2bo2bo2bo2bo5b2obo2bo$2bo5bo10b2o3b2o$b2o4b2o!
And now, a very satisfying pattern when ran in a speed that is a multiple of two:

Code: Select all

#C [[ STEP 2 GPS 30 ]]
x = 64, y = 29, rule = B2ci3ai4c8/S02ae3eijkq4iz5ar6i7e

I call them 'r-unifiers' or 'r-correctors'. 77topaz suggested on the discord the name 'r-rephasers', which is probably more accurate anyway.

EDIT: Or 'r-regulator'
