well, I did not think of a proper use case, but one can rely on some guaranties so that explosion never happens. So as long as proper delay between gliders are enforced, here is some kind of wierd toggle switch (which can be also tested 2 ways):

Yup, that feature costs extra. If you really need it, use praosylen's Special-Purpose Beehive Keeper (TM) instead.

It doesn't interrupt two perpendicular lanes simultaneously... though, really, what's that going to get used for anyway? ... but it does successfully stop gliders on three different lanes, while also being harmlessly resettable when it's already set:

Newish, I think. It's a variant of Guam's old Herschel splitter, BLx303H_Rx161B, but you've managed to avoid the piece that required a dependent conduit or an HR126 hooked up to one of the outputs.

Looks like it's necessary to suppress that marked R to get the other signal out cleanly, though. And this conduit is a little bit tricky to feed a B-heptomino into, so it may or may not end up meeting gmc_nxtman's 300-tick condition for a completed Herschel-to-Herschel conduit.

Indeed, I managed to make a h-to-h with repeat time 326, going down to 300 seems possible, but that would be more likely if some track left over some junk that would be destroyed by the incoming glider. That's what lead me to that other contraption, but the block generated by the R is in the way as you describe, well, there might be other X-to-b variants that span junk that's out of the way of downstream sparks (marked in red)... at least my search by hand inconclusive.

well, I realized later that there is no point in fixing this c-to-c so it works with c-to-g, there is an alternative c-to-g in the collection that produces that exact glider while leaving a block close to the intermediate c, it looks even cleaner ^^'

That one's almost certainly known - plus, 7468M is notable because it's the longest-lived known pattern consisting of a single cluster with eight or fewer cells.

Hello, welcome to the forums!
Sure, it is only 8 cells, but it takes up too large space. It is not notable considering its L/MCPS.
Please refer to our list of long-lived methuselahs to have a basic understanding about notability.

It doesn't matter, because I found a much better pattern! It must have even more L/MCPS.

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 7, rule = B3/S23

Let's see...L=8560, MCPS=14 → L/MCPS=611(check yourself). Though with the same initial population as 7468M, it has a larger MCPS and a smaller L/MCPS.

Edge-shooting p46 LWSS gun using Tanner's p46

This use of Tanner's p46 oscillator might be interesting (you can't get that offset with the p23 gun). The glider streams making the block can be advanced by 1 or 2 generations.

Pulse divider herschel factory

Might be of some limited use - e. g. this p160 factory is smaller than the straightforward p160 gun + syringe. Or it could replace the pulse divider in some large-period glider guns (e. g. p248).

The single-bit spark (marked in yellow) can be provided by a lot of oscillators (in most cases of course you need an eater for the Herschel's first glider). The minimum period would be 128. It would be 80 with a reset glider 16 ticks ahead; I don't know if that's of any use:

Not sure how well periodic pulse divider technology is known. There should probably be a link to the old LifeNews article added to the pulse divider LifeWiki article.

There's a perfectly good glider output from the basic reaction, as well as the Herschel. So it's a fairly quick mechanism for putting two unsynchronized signals in and getting two separate (but synchronizable) signals out.

I've seen it posted somewhere on these blogs in recent years, although I'm not sure where, and I can't find any mention of it on the wiki; for some reason, there are pages for most of the results of 2-glider collisions, but there isn't one for two skewed blocks. People did collisions of all the basic spaceships into each other, and into all of of the small and simple objects and patterns back in the '70s, so I would be very surprised if this wasn't known 40+ years ago.

There's a wiki redirect for half blockade, but nothing extolling the many virtues of that particular block pair.
