Seems oriented part is built, remains to start the main clock, clean up and remove the OGGCA and the snarks ... and concentrate on transition function encoding forced modifications to the gene.

Hmmm, respacing the gene could take a while ... I should probably add separators to the timedelta files denoting possible places for changes.
In OGGCA portions the gap increase means we should crowl against the simkin gliders ... the non OGGCA portions are much more easier.
The OGGCA destroyals are critical considering the count of escaping gliders, another critical section would be OGGCA program interrupted by created speboe on the input path ... the allocation using splitters with seeds rather by synchronized ships is easier, as it creates less constraints.

Let us see which portions of the DNA would be affected.
First task would probably be graphical representation of requirements caused by the transition function (to be added to gen.mc).

Hmm the main clock seed expected build from NW rather from SE ... there will be slight change in it (and its salvo).
... 3 synchronization problems at the same time ... when to send OGGCA destroyal, when snark destroyal and when clock start ...

So OGGCA cleanup for case without blinker on right recomputed (just reduction of debries before the destroyal) ...

Hmmm, I have to stop OGGCA while allocating NNWW and NW, unfortunately the used ott boats are in the way of OGGCA stopping, so the boats should be moved further and another glider lane used for the allocation (after OGGCA stop passes around).

Seems construction is finished, clocks are synchronized.
The only problem remains ... the transition function (and state transitions).
0e0pcells_build.mc
(1.31 MiB) Downloaded 6 times
Checking the maximal signal 7 passing through neighbors DNA ...
there is no problem at signal crossing to SW, there is collision of 4th glider on path to NW with NW DNA :( ... spacing in DNA should be slightly altered there. There are no colisions on the paths to SE or NE neighbors.

So I have to generate graphical map of transition function requirements, and modify SimkinECCA.py to preserve comments from the source code to the result ... to allow easier localisation of problems ... (and solutions).

Actually the ONWWW probably requires some changes ... current realisation seems cuts from the 1024 ticks too small portion to allow 7 gliders to be present ... yes 509 consecutive glider positions can hold at most 6 gliders (in sc90 stream). There are 7 forbidden ticks before the portion opening and 63 forbidden ticks after its closing … giving us 954 of 1024 glider positions to be split to in/out portions. 589/365 looks like a reasonable split.

... it was proposal with variable long boat 180 ott position to decide the closing time (mod 1024) ... we need at least 541 consecutive glider positions so at least 4 FD shift, but let us plan the spacing first (we probably prefere gaps of size about 96 corresponding to 9 FD shift ...) and do the change at the end.

Seems a lot of the transition function is currently coded by DNA part waiting for 0hd glider to destroy the snark at the end of the oriented construction. There definitely cannot be gliders added to the DNA. So the transition function reading window should be shifted somewhere else.

Hmmm, I have not published snark conversion by -8hd glider to -13hd glider ... I could use this (and conversion by -13hd glider to nothing) instead of conversion to 0hd glider and 0hd to nothing. This would allow me to continue sending gliders ... .

If we make figure eight at correct lane behind the second snark (before building the snark?), we can use it as eater of %8 well timed gliders and destroy it cleanly by last glider ... this would allow us to encode transition function at this critical portion.

Codding in DNA portion before the second snark destroyal would not be that problematic, we can add almost arbitrary delay to OGGCA destroyal, (the OSSSE could me modified latter as well) we can let escape more gliders if required. (We can plan 7 OGGCA gliders per 0/7 state and use 7 single OGGCA glider anihilations in used portion) to code state 7 and 2*2+3 glider anihilations before the used portion to encode state 0 (using -> pond -> ship->)

The transition function encodding uses almost 1/4 of the DNA length (the distance between portions encoding 7777 and 0004), there are 15 portions encoding transitions from 07 to 0123456 and 511 portions encodding from 0123456 to 07, ideally we want to make these 511 portions to encode selectably (0/7).

We can delay the transition function DNA position by 1/8 DNA length by switching order of block boat on central clock output. Adding K gliders absorber after last semisnark after countdown clock would delay transition function by K/32 DNA length, but that would require repslmaking the most complicated build block. We can change the state of first semisnark after the main clock and change block before the boat to a 2 glider absorber what would shift transition function DNA by another 1/8 DNA length ... this would put it to the start of the shell build, what is probably the most flexible solution. Yep seems it would be "just" after ignition of the second fuse of the doublestretching crab. There is definitely a lot of flexibility there.

Seems it is solvable but there is still a lot of work to do.

OK, I have pslmaked main clock gun neighbourhood and ONWWW part with longboat shifted. I will replace corresponding portions of the recipe ... .
Meanwhile I made the graphic representation of the transition function requirements, I have added comments to gen.txt (timedeltas) with positions in the DNA in octa and I have changed the simkinECCA.py to include comments in output. I have recompiled all the sources ... and now there is some problem in shell construction (wrong synchronization around SSSE interuption of EEEE construction) ... I will be looking for the differences ...

There is a small complication in "looking for differences" as the compilation is "nondeterministic" ... there are often alternative recipes of the same length and there are hidden factors deciding which variant it choses ... so not all changes causes the problem ...

Seems when I was finishing the kernel openning changes to the shell, I have forgot manual splitting of a compiled file ... and I worked with the old version ... not corresponding to the source code ... It would be better to newly resync the SSSE interuption then returning to the old source code.

OK seems I have finaly made source codes compatible with cell building both shell and oriented contents. I have not resynchronized the central clock.

(Last problem was the better OGGCA algorithm laying boat at given position was not compatible with the proximity of the Simkin gun so the older recipe hed to be used. Other issues were essentially synchronization changes caused by more efficient parity emission choices. ... it was probably good training as changing spacing would cause to solve the synchronization problems again.)

So now its time to implement the small changes in the oriented pattern and resynchronize ... if the transition portion would be encoded in shell build portion, the changes to oriented portion would remain ... upto clock synchronization. It would be probably wise to increase distance between current shell build and the oriented build and let shell build expand to the emptied space ... during transition function encoding changes.

Hmm the selfdependencies ... Natural prolonging gap between shell build and kernel opening of the oriented build requires to close the shell input later ... but if there will be no GEN gliders between shell build and oriented build, there will be no problem if the kernel would be opened earlier.

So what would be shortened when shell build would be prolonged is not wait for kernel openning, but the distance between kernel openning and oriented gliders going through. There will be still risk in OEEEE corssing the input lane ...

It is probably time to think about efficient build of this ^ (xy swap possible) (typically we have time to build it, but why not to use fast recipe), it could be nice to replace wX for big enough X by figure eight construction so transition function encodding would be trivial in affected gaps. The shell construction till 4q has a lot of gaps witing for synchronization events and we can postpone a lot of build "for free".

So everything was recompiled and resynchronized, I have tried to start oriented construction as late as reasonably possible to start clocks in sync.
The length of transition function intervals were extended, the position of transition table was moved. Now it's time to start encodding the transition function.

Not yet, as position of the oriented build in the DNA was settled, I should solve the signal crossing with it.

OK selecting phase of one glider caused to wait just one oggca glider rather then two ... to finish long pull from NWWW to position of main clock.
... and the signal crosses the DNA of NW neighbor without collisions. (Other neighbors are fine (so far)).

So encoding of transition function begins.

BTW this signal passing is a bit hash unfriendly as it passes close against the DNA loop, but 7 gliders could not be a big deal.

Hmmm, oops, it is worse, the signal traweling NW collides with the DNA loop 2nd time ... now probably in the OSSSS-OWWWW build. ... still probably not in the portion affected by transition function so let us start by correcting this. ... it is in ONNNN.

OK, so now we have both crosses OK, I had to start earlier with the oriented build, (probably not 32*120 earlier, but there was too many failed attempts to "squeeze through" that I build a gap to do it easier. If these 32 are critical ... there is chance to do it in about 5.

I feel like we could be more efficient if we had an edgy seed for the figure-8, where the gliders from both directions can pass through. Using oncoming recipes would make the cleanup of the seed construction much easier, but it's difficult when the components interfere. I looked at a few soups but didn't see anything right away.

To find this, I passed these custom-intermediates with snark.py (vertical bars indicate dividers)

Code: Select all

And I passed these custom-starting-points as starting targets (i.e. 1-10 escaping gliders from the OGGCA). For each of the starting targets, I passed delays of 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7, the ones that have useful reactions with the first glider.

Wow, you are incredible, thanks a lot. I have not hoped for it, so I have already added:

to the SimkinECCA.txt definition file ... starting with glider (848 % 1024) WE,WF (with well chosen lane) create no glider in 0..588 window, while WG, WH produce 7 gliders in the window (there are no other gliders in -7..651 window). All 4 recipes end at (848 % 1024), WE, WG "pushes arm by 16", while WF, WH "pulls arm by 14".

It was not that much complicated to encode using it ... I have already encoded transitions starting from 7777 to 6301 ... .

With this tool there will be no problems to synchronize to (848 % 1024) ... (my compiler does not have support for it).
I am still not sure how nonLife rules would be incorporated to the Metacell ... the WF/WH solution allows to make change in "lanephase" source and recompile to the changed transition table.

The figure eight solution would ensure there are figure eights whenever Midstate to 07 transition occurs and the 7/0 gliders would be inserted exp post to the DNA.
It could happen synchronization problems could prevent us to make figure8 sometimes, so combined method could be the final solution ... some parts of the transition function changes would require WF/WH changes in the source and some adding/removing 7/0 gliders from the final DNA.

Meanwhile I have found a problem with late changes around the main clock. Removal of the block behind the ott starting the countdown clock causes the transition function is not read in time before the result processing starts ... we already test the final state is 0 before the state is set.
I probably should add 8 gliders absorber to wait full DNA cycle before processing (main clock are 2^{21} while DNA 2^{24}) ... I could use the semisnark and make 4 gliders absorbers behind.

Fortunately as we decided the transition function is encoded in shell build, we could modify the oriented build almost independently.

Considering the state0 ... there should be created gap in the DNA to support all the 4 build opennings ... without letting gliders escape to the construction site. (Alternatively we could change the oriented build ... the state0 speedup seed ... to close the DNA loop first before the 4 build opennings.) ... the first solution is probably cheaper, the other could be easier to synchronize.

The 4 gliders absorber is planned, but I would finish the transition table before updating the oriented build... I probably should make a lifelib script to get to tested generation rather to going there (218 106 720) in Golly....

Hmm, something is still wrong, the state 0 cell have not died properly ... central clock wanished after a while, but the destruction of the DNA path by one opposite glider have not appeared.

Hmm seems solving the state0 gap problem was premature ... the central clocks between generations are in sync mod 2^{21}, but there is difference mod 2^{24} ... starting semisnark state and absorbers should be modified ... I have to debug this first.

Uff, I was afraid the different speed logic for mid states and normal states would address different portions of the DNA, but it was designed well.
The modifications to made around central clock would be different than I expected, but everything seems would synchronize well with them.
I could replace 3 glides absorber in NNWW by 2 gliders one to short both 1-6 and 7 state lifespan by 1DNA / I could remove it entirely.
It would make 1-6 state cells to live 12 DNA's and 7 state cells 18 DNA's resp. 10+16 (with removal of another 3 absorber at NW gives 7+13). I am not going to do that as 13+19 = 2^5 so current design would simulate whole generation in 32 DNA's so in 2^{29}, what is perfectly hash friendly ..., 7+9 would not distinguish the subphases enough.
State 0 uses the same "another 3 absorber", it dies earlier by (6+3/4)DNA then states 1-6. Dying of state0 finishes at 0x7B61635 generation (almost 8 DNA loops). So the midstates will be "alone" for 5 DNA loops, basestates for 14 DNA loops ... but it includes children construction.

OOOPs, the SE child construction of middle states starts at about 5DNA, and SE parent dies till 8DNA ... it probably would not work.
For base states the build starts at 11DNA, so this is fine.

Is the 3DNA wait for destruction for 0 state required? Skipping it would solve the problem.

Actually no ... State 0 of current mid generation dies before 8DNA, but we are interested on time the 7 state of base generation vanishes, and it is at about 0x2C00000 of the mid generation (before 3DNA). For base generation the mid generations would vanish at about 0x2C00000 (before 3DNA) as well.

So mid generations would be building next generation neighbours when the states 0 will be still dying, but base generations would be for 3DNA loops alone without dying cells or next mid generation being built.

(SoD description was not finished for states 1-7 as it can be deduced from state 0 (except the optional kernel opennings ... and minor differences in logic dependent on which cell build which neighbor)

Hmm I probably worked with 2 absorber rather to 3 for states 1-6 and 7... they should star next generation at 0xD000000 resp. 0x13000000.

OK, I have a map, how cells should behave, and now I should find where the build cells differ ... when they are not dying correctly.

OK problem identified ... the replacement of the SoD of input logic ... on the corner from which the cell is built outputs glider of the wrong parity.
Seems I have not tested it thoroughly enough.
I should think about an alternative solution (or add a phase switching 0 degree 0 lane shifted ott if simple solution fails).

Actually the proposal was OK

But the starting blinker was created in the wrong phase.

OK, with the blinker in the other phase the cell is dying correctly.
Thanks to changed resync the gap in the DNA to allow state0 speedup should be moved to another place ...

So remaining tasks are:
1) Flipping the phase of the blinker ... trivial.
2) Shifting the gap to allow state0 speedup.
3) Finish/redo the transition function encoding (I am already prepared for insertion of mid->base rules to the finished gen, so figure8 could be used whenever it simlifies construction (I have to incorporate the special wait to the compiler).
4) Do the changes to the oriented build near the main clock to incorporate shift of position for transition function in the DNA (debuged pattern).

BTW: Upto manual changes it is fine to watch the cells ... watching metaglider in Golly with step about 2^{20} seems will be possible.

Taking back ... 1) is nontrivial ... it was "in envelope" recipe and changing blinker phase in it means searching for another recipe.

OK, 1), 2) implemented, unfortunately the gap for state0 speedup is in the start of the directed portion, so after implementing 4) it should be reconsidered. Fortunately it extended gap required for the signal crossing to the NW neighbor, so both reconsiderations could be done together.

The presented example was edited ... the neighborhoods of the main clock mimic the changes required by 4), transmited states were edited to represent 7770 (cannot happen together), which shoud give 0 ... if the transition function would be coded (and it actually encodes it now).

We can see the cells are not equal, the corner from which they were built differs (in SoD) from other corners ... but now it is compatible.

So time to include special wait and make room for transition functionencoding glider insertions. (3))

^ And the figure eight would make the transition function encoding much easier in a lot of places... (tools prepared ... just alternatively solve the complicated cases or make room there ...)
