2.6 trillion objects, not one of which is a pentadecathlon, and 0 discoveries.

He or she is almost certainly cheating, hence why Parmenides is rejecting many hauls (but unfortunately not all of them) as being implausible:

https://catagolue.appspot.com/haul/b3s23/C1?committed=4

There's some ironic petard-hoisting in that several of these rejected hauls are self-verified.

I guess the hauls would be correctly rejected if I compared the claimed object count against the total number of blocks, blinkers, beehives etc.

I noticed that many of those hauls were verified by the same person who submitted them. I didn't know that was permitted.

Ah, right. I was wondering about the lack of discoveries, but had assumed they simply hadn't been updated yet for the day.

What a shame.

Heh. Nice. I guess all this users' hauls were backed out of the census, too?

Here's another idea for verifying hauls, i.e. quickly rejecting obvious bad apples -- common sense dictates that there should be a (logarithmic?) correlation between total objects and distinct objects. Hauls that veer too much from a parameter computed from known good hauls could quickly be rejected, or at least set aside for further testing.
mniemiec wrote:

Going out on a limb here, but -- has intentional cheating ever been contemplated? I think verification was only supposed to protect against flawed good-faith submissions, e.g. ones generated by buggy apgsearch versions.

If this is changed, BTW, care should be taken not to inadvertantly break rulesyms like B3/S23/D2_+1, B3/S23/D2_+2 and B3/S238/C1 which have verification enabled but may not have multiple users contributing at any given time.

Apple Bottom wrote:Heh. Nice. I guess all this users' hauls were backed out of the census, too?
Judging by the contents of the hauls, they are valid apart from the fudged total number of claimed soups and objects. My pseudo-haul corrected for the global object count; I just have to make a similar correction for the global soup count. The actual tabulations (which form textcensus) were never affected by the attack.
Here's another idea for verifying hauls, i.e. quickly rejecting obvious bad apples -- common sense dictates that there should be a (logarithmic?) correlation between total objects and distinct objects. Sure. From what I gather, the relationship is a power-law: multiplying the haul size by 5 will yield twice as many distinct objects.
mniemiec wrote:I noticed that many of those hauls were verified by the same person who submitted them. I didn't know that was permitted.

Correct, I didn't imagine that anyone would have any incentive to deliberately manipulate the Catagolue statistics. It's not as though one can trade futures or options linked to the end-of-day object counts.

For the record, that's xp3_wcc0s2aba2s0ccz8u1t1k81218k1t1u8z01qq2s0a9a0s2qq1zy211311. No attribution, unfortunately, as the haul has been deleted.

Why was the haul deleted?

Probably for conservation of memory, as it would be quite inefficient to store literally millions of hauls.

The following 22-bit P2 just popped up in a soup: http://catagolue.appspot.com/object/xp2 ... l4ko/b3s23. Unfortunately, it forms very quickly, so there's little time to find a viable predecessor. Still, it might be possible, and this is the as-yet unsynthesized rotor variant of this type, with Extrementhusiast having previously synthesized the other three. As the house approaches separately, substituting it should be trivial. Replacing the inducting house by a beehive makes a 19-bit P2, and with a loaf makes two different 20-bit P2s, which are the bases for four remaining unknown 26-bit P6s (turning loaf to jam) and four of the five remaining unknown 25-bit P4s (turning loaf into mold).
