Here's a rule that simulates the chain of cloverleaves.
Here is the equivalent MAP rule
A more symmetric interpretation of the same rule:
Code: Select all
x = 1, y = 48, rule = MAPBJ8g/wSfIP8EnyD/AP8A/w

o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o$o!
Time symmetry is now much clearer and the subperiods now exist on a line of reflection.

Period 2 because the smallest possible period 3 and 4 oscillators are far larger than that.

Replace the VN transitions on the left with the INT transitions on the right:
Code: Select all
(B|S)0 - (B|S)0 (B|S)1c (B|S)2cn (B|S)3c (B|S)4c
(B|S)1 - (B|S)1e (B|S)2ak (B|S)3inqy (B|S)4ny (B|S)5e
(B|S)2e - (B|S)2e (B|S)3ajk (B|S)4akqw (B|S)5ajk (B|S)6e
(B|S)2i - (B|S)2i (B|S)3r (B|S)4itz (B|S)5r (B|S)6i
(B|S)3 - (B|S)3e (B|S)4jr (B|S)5inqy (B|S)6ak (B|S)7e
(B|S)4 - (B|S)4e (B|S)5c (B|S)6cn (B|S)7c (B|S)8
E.g B2i/S3V becomes B2i3r4itz5r6i/S3e4jr5inqy6ak7e.

The pattern has only 1 cell, and the population count is equal to the generation count starting from generation 1.
Code: Select all
x = 1, y = 1, rule = Linebender

Is this an "inline

1. How to apgsearch custom ruletables? I've looked through LifeWiki pages, conwaylife.com forum pages, apgsearch documentation, and lifelib documentation without finding anything. (I know that when apgsearching custom rules, the rule's name must start with x.)
2. What programs can I use to search for spaceships and oscillators in INT rules? I know of qfind (only orthogonal spaceships), rlifesrc, and apgsearch.

1). Save the ruletable file in your apgmera directory with a normal name. Then, run:
Code: Select all
./recompile.sh --rule <ruletable file name> <other arguments>
apgsearch will do the remaining steps for you. Note that if you apgsearch a custom rule, the soups will only have state 1 cells, so keep that in mind.
2). You can use
ikpx2 to search for spaceships. For oscillators, you can use
ofind, but it requires quite a bit of manual configuration, and for high-period or large oscillators, apgsearching higher symmetries is the best method.

I've moved this post out of a new thread to the "Thread for basic non-CGOL questions", since the main question seemed to be whether or not it was a new discovery. It could also have gone in
Miscellaneous Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata.
(It didn't fit well under the LifeWiki discussion thread, or in the regular basic-questions thread under Help & Support, because this spaceship isn't going to be a high-priority item for the LifeWiki, no matter whether it's new or not. The main namespace for the LifeWiki, and most of the forum boards outside of the Other Cellular Automata board, are used specifically for discoveries in the B3/S23 rule.)
There are a
lot of spaceships that emerge from soups in various
isotropic non-totalistic rules. A good place to start exploring to see what has been found already is the Object page of Catagolue. Paste in that p66 spaceship's RLE and it will take you to this page
xq66_33s/b34itzs2-n3
At this moment, that page indicates that nobody has contributed search results for this specific rule yet. This may change now that attention has been drawn to this rule! Or it may have already been seen (I haven't gone hunting in Catagolue) in some other rule where it also works. There are 65536 compatible rules in all, I think. See the above link for the range of rules.

Out of the 256 non-B0 totalistic self-complimentary rules, only 94 of them may have spaceships. How many do?
I eliminated all of B23/S0, or B1, or S01234, or none of B123.
Can someone provide a known example in each rule?

How do I begin making multistate rule files?
For example, say that I want to make a rule with state 0-10, each single cell other than 0 being a photon traveling in a respective direction (1: top-left diagonal, 2: top orthogonal, 3: top-right diagonal, 4: left orthogonal, 5: stationary, 6: right orthogonal, 7: bottom-left diagonal, 8: bottom orthogonal, 9: bottom-right diagonal).
How do I make a rule file with that step-by-step, and is there a way to visualize live what I'm doing?

3. It is a 1D replicator going up & down
4. It is a 1D replicator going up & down which is slower than c/2
5. It is a 1D replicator going up & down which is slower than c/2 and behaves the same as life until generation 4 or later
6. It is a 1D replicator going up & down with a speed of 3c/15 and behaves the same as life until generation 4 or later

Oh, ok.
Check
