"daisy chain" is an expression that means attaching copies of a thing by their ends, front of one to back of another.
So, by your definition, any similarly-reacting pattern would be classified as a climber, not a crawler? Please clarify.
No, it would just be a fuse.

Well, for some of the patterns you posted, the gliders aren't only shifted; they're rotated and face a different direction, or the offset for each glider isn't the same. As Gustone said, you can't chain them together without adding extra supporting objects, so it doesn't count as a crawler. If you found a way to make them chainable,
then it'd be a crawler, but it isn't one just yet.

Now I understand. Why does the wiki mention nothing about this?

I guess it’s just because not a lot of people are really investigating in crawlers. They may make good spaceships, but they are pretty rare.
If you want to construct some spaceships in Life,
here’s something that may interest you:

The wiki says that in the reaction, both groups of objects need to be "moved". This means that they reappear exactly as they were but in a different location.
It consists of two groups of objects:
- The B-heptaplet
- The block and two gliders
which react between themselves to produce
- Another B-heptaplet
- Another block and two other gliders,
shifted back to some degree.
Here, the group of block and two gliders would need to reappear exactly as it was before the reaction.

You can't daisy chain them.
The wiki has precisely zero matches for the word “daisy”, let alone “daisy chain”. So I’ll just assume you mean that since there are gliders in the crawler, you can’t just extend the crawler by placing the gliders with the same relative shift to the B-heptaplet. Correct me if I’m wrong.
So, by your definition, any similarly-reacting pattern would be classified as a climber, not a crawler? Please clarify. Note that the wiki page on the subject states that

In any case though, it would be better for you to use preexisting terminology or, if no such terminology exists, explain what you mean before using new or unofficially documented Life-related terms. (excluding your post, “daisy chain” only has 5 matches on the forums, and none on the wiki, as previously mentioned.)
I think what Gustone is trying to say is that the output of the climber reaction alone can't support the same reaction, i.e. one copy of the reaction can't be immediately followed by a second copy of the same reaction. But if that was the case, then none of these would qualify as crawlers either (even though spaceships have been built for all three of these):
Code: Select all
x = 181, y = 163, rule = B3/S23

Middle crawler: Unnamed/Much smaller (34,7)c/156 spaceship ((34,7)c/156)
Bottom crawler: Shield bug, Centipede, Silverfish, Leaf bug, Mannaz, … (31c/240)

Yes, those aren't crawlers. Their paired versions are.
