"discrete energy quanta"

what would that be in CA ?

in CGoL ?
Gs obviously
I am assuming Gs means Gliders - if so, does a Herschel also qualify, or no ?

I would think of a Herschel a bit more like a Uranium atom - it emits a few useful energy quanta (gliders/neutrons) but leaves behind a bunch of inconvenient junk.

@ mniemiec

Great Analogy !

The Nuclear Fission Reaction of Uranium in an Atomic Pile can be controlled with carbon control rods !

Sounds like you are in agreement with Moosey that the Glider is best example of "discrete energy quanta" -

what I was getting at was "What are THE MOST OBSERVED phenomena in CGoL ?"

We probably should start with everything we know/HaveObserved;

whether or not something "qualifies" as "discrete energy quanta",

may be fruitful pursuit if properly dealt with...

again, spaceships, oscillators and stilllifes ( 3 l's hahaha )

are what is left after the "fire" burns out;

exactly what the "fire" is, is rather daunting and has got me stumped -

and I have been thinking about this long before our friend started this thread...

I had hoped to run into some ideas that might give me a better viewpoint;

widely observed/studied items like G and H may be a good place to begin -

how about a Top Ten List just to keep the discussion focused long enough

to get a sense of direction and how to proceed ?

There are "fire-like" signals that travel in wicks/fuses/conduits -

and the H is now one of the most widely studied/observed of these...

Diligent rigorous careful scientific observation

instead of just trying to "get things to work", engineering

may yield some Universal Principles

so we emulate Max Planck...

There's a clip with something like "NO DON'T DO THIS, DON'T DO THIS, DONT DO IT, NO DONT DO IT, THINK OF YOUR FAMILY, THINK OF YOUR FANS, THINK OF EVERYBODY" overlaid over an MC video of a guy jumping from a high place.

I feel that this video perfectly represents the thread.

Hopefully, he'll come back with a better understanding of the evolution of the glider. And less hatred towards me.

Personally, I don't expect that to happen from someone who got frustrated with dvgrn when dvgrn removed profanity from the thread, considering that profanity is against the rules. Remember, Hubi called us all ignorant, and attacked anyone whose opinions involved (quite rightly, in my own) a distaste for what Hubi did.

Also, whether the topic was actually important is debatable; as rhombic once put it, it's a bunch of "pseudoscientific ramble". Though of course perhaps this was less to do with the nature of the topic as much as the nature of the author.
Actually important is the Corona virus, only. COVID-19 is hardly half as ignorant as most of mathematicians. And as eager as can be to spread its hatred over you, poor shmoosey Moosey!

Apparently, Hubi1857 is starting to "insult" people.

Hubi1857, I wish you can keep calm and fix your glider, it's nothing that hard. A glider in Game of Life does not act like that, as you can see by watching the animation in the glider, or putting the glider into Golly.

... I give up.

The word "ignorance" is usually used on someone who don't know how does a glider evolve and refuse to correct his error.

1) this is name-calling, and probably counts as harassment, which is probably against forum rules. Actually, it's definitely harassment since you appear to be wishing me to get an infectious disease
2) please explain how we are ignorant. If you want anyone to hear that as an actual concern and not a straight-up insult, you better give evidence for how we are ignorant. Or perhaps we aren't most mathematicians? But then again, I've never heard of a single ignorant mathematician.

EDIT:
yup, definitely against the forum rules, in which the first rule is:
Be kind, honest, and respectful.
The majority of your posts are neither kind nor respectful.

The whole point of Science is that anyone's work can be replicated by anyone else

so by virtue of understanding, we are systematically liquidating our ignorance.....

What the Rule 2? You can't see any mathematicians closing their eyes and ignoring everything they don't understand if you're closing your eyes and ignoring everything you don't understand. It looks like you're living up to the Ancient Egyptian standards - "the brain only serves to separate the ears".

Fact:
The COVID-19 pandemic is threatening, but the origin of the virus is still unkown and many govs are not doing well enough in terms of containing the virus. Also, 5G technology does not spread the virus, and vaccination is good for people.
My opinion:
Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion has helped very little in the field of environmental protection.

perhaps it is a form of love; fixation obsession

I want to tread lightly here - just an attempt at

intended; this community has the skills needed

to delve into cellular automata according to

Max Planck; so how should we proceed ?

I believe CGoL is the key to understanding this :

a Micro-Managed, Biologically Balanced, Multi-System EcoStructure

with an embedded command-and-control regime

virus code is part of IT your DNA is part of IT bacteria/fungus are part of IT

IT is addressing a systemic imbalance; so far targeting impaired immune systems -

I do not believe that there are too many humans - only that their behavior is un-balancing

the System; and so the System reacts - suggesting - changes in human behavior - so we react to IT

the Glider most closely resembles a Virus - and is he not already our favorite pet computer virus already ?
