There's the thing called oscar.
No, I didn’t find it by golly, I did it on lifeviewer.
Oscar, you need eight eaters.
Golly is much easier to use than LifeViewer.

...What's the problem with simply placing eight killer cells?
I’m on my iPad, and I don’t know the App Store password for it.( : lol : )

There's the thing called oscar.
Does literally ANYONE know this oscar variant (.lua)?

Code: Select all

-- Oscar is an OSCillation AnalyzeR for use with Golly.
--
-- This script uses Gabriel Nivasch's "keep minima" algorithm.
-- Edited by Entity Valkyrie 2
--
-- For each generation, calculate a hash value for the pattern. Keep all of
-- the record-breaking minimal hashes in a list, with the oldest first.
-- For example, after 5 generations the saved hash values might be:
--
-- 8 12 16 24 25,
--
-- If the next hash goes down to 13 then the list can be shortened:
--
-- 8 12 13.
--
-- If the current hash matches one of the saved hashes, it is highly likely
-- the pattern is oscillating. By keeping a corresponding list of generation
-- counts we can calculate the period. We also keep lists of population
-- counts and bounding boxes to reduce the chance of spurious oscillator
-- detection due to hash collisions. The bounding box info also allows us
-- to detect moving oscillators (spaceships/knightships).

This is actually a reasonable decision IMO. The universal glider eater we're looking for is definitely an object that interacts with the glider, not something like the Snowflakes universal catalyst.

P120 + 8n gun:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 25, rule = StateInvestigator

The P120 gun reminds me of Michael Simkin's P120 gun.
EDIT: This gun can insert a glider on the same lane as the output glider:

Code: Select all

EDIT 1: Two gliders or more can be used if the two reflectors are far enough. Example P100:

Is there support for these states? If not, can we add them?
State 17: never change itself, treated as on considering births of cells, but off for survivals of cells
State 18: never change itself, treated as off considering births of cells, but on for survivals of cells
State 19: changes into state 20 next tick, treated as on considering births of cells, but off for survivals of cells
State 20: changes into state 19 next tick, treated as off considering births of cells, but on for survivals of cells
(Not that I'm going to use this rule, I'm not a one for multistate rules)
By the way, EV2's signature contains a broken link to the wiki user page.

That would become StateInvestigator version 3.0 or 3.1 (Current version: 2.1)

Oh god, not another batch of cells to add to the LifeUltra waiting list...

Can you try and make sure that StateInvestigator never exceeds 48 or so different states? LifeViewer can only handle 256 different states, so if general Ultra support does come I want to make sure we can settle on a definition for what cells are included and what are not.
