Occasionally my Undo system will get confused and restore objects in the wrong place when I do a sequence of Ctrl-Z's (or Ctrl-R followed by multiple Ctrl+Shift+Z's). Usually there's some particular (0,Y) or (X,0) offset from where the objects should be reappearing, apparently related to my having scrolled the universe in one direction or another, in a way that Golly's display system noticed but the Undo system didn't (?)
[I'm sure that the way I've described it can't actually happen if you look at the code... but a lot of bugs are like that!]
Also fairly regularly, Golly's menus and toolbars will stop working for me -- every click in Golly's window is interpreted as a click in the universe behind the menu or toolbar I'm trying to use. This continues until I switch to another window, then back to Golly, and then everything is fine again.
Do either of these sound familiar to anyone else, or is it unique to my laptop?
I posted this and some more details to the golly-test list a while back.
-- Golly seems to get stuck thinking the SHIFT key is down, when it
isn't -- or something like that. I haven't been able to figure out
how to trigger the behavior, but it tends to happen when I'm working
on editing a pattern, doing a lot of Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+R, and
Ctrl+V to paste a modified pattern back into the universe at T=0.
I've seen this now and then on the last several versions of Golly, so
it's nothing new. It may be specific to my laptop, but it's nothing
as simple as a stuck SHIFT key -- to fix it, I've learned to simply
switch to any other window, then back to Golly.
When Golly gets into this mode, clicking on menu items doesn't work.
Any click is interpreted as an attempt to modify the Life universe.
When I'm in drawing mode, the most common result is that I
accidentally draw a long streak of ON cells as Golly simultaneously
draws and pans to the northwest.
I think most keyboard shortcuts stop working at the same time: when
it happened just now, on Golly 2.5b2, I was trying to do Ctrl+C,
Ctrl+R, Ctrl+V, and nothing was happening at all... As always, as
soon as I clicked away from the Golly window, then back again, the
problem went away.
-- Also very occasionally, the Undo/Redo system will get corrupted,
and Ctrl-Shift-Z will start restoring deleted objects some distance
from where I actually deleted them. Usually I think the offset
matches some pan operation I've done recently -- but again, I'm
completely unable to get this to happen except when I don't want it
to.
