Stuck: A squishy photon rule.

Post by Redstoneboi »

Remember photonic rules like Sticky?
Remember squishy wiring rules like NoTimeAtAll?
Well I smashed them together and got this thing.

Code: Select all

@RULE Stuck

@COLORS
0 0 0 0
1 0 0 255
2 128 128 0
3 255 0 0
4 0 255 0

@TABLE
n_states:5
neighborhood:Moore
symmetries:rotate4reflect

var a{0,1,2,3,4}
var b=a
var c=a
var d=a
var e=a
var f=a
var g=a
var h=a

var r{ , ,2,3,4}

var s{ , , ,3,4}
var t=s
var u=s

#SPACE
# gate wait
0  s 1 0 d e f g 0  0
# nor gate (can easily be changed)
0  3 1 3 d 1 f g h  4
0  3 1 4 d 1 f g h  3
0  4 1 3 d 1 f g h  3
0  4 1 4 d 1 f g h  3
# squishy photon
0  2 b c d e f g h  0
0  s r c d e f g 1  s
0  s r c d e f g h  0
0  s b c d e f g h  s

#TAIL
2  s b c d e f g h  2
2  a b c d e f g h  0

#SIGNAL
# split
s  t b c d u f g h  2
s  1 b 0 d 2 f g h  s
# squishy photon
s  t b c d 2 f g h  2
s  t b 2 d e f g h  2
Here's a demo pattern. The gate is 2 blocks arranged in a B2k formation, and functions as a NOR.
This can easily be changed into any 2-input gate by changing the transitions labeled in the rule file.

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 20, rule = Stuck
14.A$BD.BC.BD.BC$13.A14.A3$BD.BD.BC.BC4.A$14.A4$2.A5.A8.A.A.A.A.A.A$.
AC.BD.BCA6.A3.A3.A3.A$2.B$5.A5.A$2.D.A7.A$2.B5.A2$2.C3.A$.AB15.A3.A3.
A$2.A2.A5.A5.A.A.A.A.A!
This rule really doesn't do much, but it's a bit of a novelty and a challenge for anyone diving into synthetic rules.

Is this a way to make this not get stuck without breaking the rule

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 2, rule = Stuck
CB$B!
It looks like it cannot be freed even by hitting it with another photon
κ is measurable iff there is a nontrivial elementary embedding j:V→M (M transitive) with critical point κ

1. You're probably using the rule wrong if you ended up like that.
2. I don't think there's a way for the stuck photon to tell between that and this:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = Stuck
.C$.B2$.C$.B2$BC.BC.BC$.B!
And the spaces can't tell between that Stuck position and photons simply moving forward. There goes the rule name.
