Richard K. Guy, 1916-2020

Post by Ian07 »

For those who haven't already heard, Richard K. Guy, the discoverer of the glider among other things, passed away yesterday at the age of 103. He will be missed.

That's a real shame. 103 is a ripe old age (I hope I'll live that long!), but death is always a sad event, even so. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

EDIT: we now have a black ribbon on the LifeWiki to mourn his passing. (This can easily disabled, and reenabled later in case someone else dies; see the Tiki bar.)

Not to be pedantic, but I'm pretty sure the commas aren't in the right location.

Reason: removed duplicate copy of buggy splash-screen script

does not always work...
Why not use a pattern of gliders where none of the lanes overlap with each other, like this for example?

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 20, rule = B3/S23
6b3o$6bo$7bo4$18b2o$17bobo$19bo3$o$obo$2o4$12bo$13bo$11b3o!

Code: Select all

# splash-screen.py...
It's generally a better policy to link to the message containing the original script, than to make new copies of it. With copies all of the place, if the original script gets updated, there's no easy way for anyone to find and update all the copies.

Speaking of which, I fixed a bug in the original script -- it was using the wrong bounding box to determine where to put the pixel patterns. Please replace your script with the version 1.1 available at the above link. I've taken the liberty of deleting the two copies you made of the script (one here, one in a quotation on the other thread).
