That's good so I can finally contribute better.
I think he don't have. Otherwise his tool would be extremely powerful that it can do anything, including converting a prank into an actual working oscillator with new period, and find catalysts in OCA rules.

Is the first really a splitter? Its SE output is 3-glider(closely spaced) and I don't see a way to convert it into a single glider.

The second have period problem. It is p198.

You have the right general idea here. Until you know how to construct something -- anything! -- that can be used to build logic circuitry, you won't have a universal constructor.

I've scanned through the LeapLife thread now. Looks like your best bet for universal construction might be Remini-like construction using intermittent p22 glider streams. (Remini uses intermittent p30 streams.)

"Shoulder", "elbow", and "hand" are all just analogies to more-or-less equivalent places on an arm. The shoulder is where all the elbow-manipulating signals have to come from. Probably some kind of edge-shooting guns will be needed at the shoulder, but you have to be able to trigger them to fire with an input signal, they can't just be firing all the time.

The elbow is where the construction-arm signals turn and head toward the hand. The hand is where the construction happens.

Possible, but not likely. There are contexts where you'll need 22 times as many recipes as you would if you came up with stable construction-arm technology. Somebody tried doing the equivalent at p30 in Life before the Gemini idea came along, but you needed insanely huge recipes to build anything.

Don't worry about the hand for now. It looks like you have reactions that can start with a nearby block and gradually push it farther away with unidirectional gliders. That's all you need to make something like a Demonoid.

Yes. Try a huge random 50% rectangle in Life, and then in LeapLife. Look around the edges. Life has a whole pile of patterns that like to travel -- R-pentominos, B-heptominos, Herschels (all related), pi-heptominos, LOMs, centuries, etc. Herschels in particular show up around the edges of random soup, traveling outwards. Offhand I don't see anything like that in LeapLife.

Boats make nice eater-equivalent catalysts, probably, but it's going to be hard to come up with a traveling LeapLife pattern like a Herschel that can be catalyzed to move from place to place and produce workable signal circuitry, with extra glider outputs when you need them. Maybe there's something out there -- a traveling traffic light or something, along the lines of AbhpzTa's shuttles -- but the odds don't look very good.

Which means you'll pretty much be stuck with trying to get a Remini-like solution to work.

Mostly you just need a period-N gun that can be constructed with gliders, and that can be used to duplicate an intermittent period-N glider stream. Doesn't matter too much what N is, actually. The closer it is to being an edge-shooting gun, the better. Find that first, and then I can explain the searches that could be done to make it into a universal constructor.

(You can post questions on the LeapLife thread, and then just PM me to tell me it's there, since I don't always look at OCA postings.)

Ha, funny! The lanes of those gliders are pretty close though so it is probably not easy to handle.

Any ideas on edgeshooting the unstable thing in the p22 synth final step?

EDIT you should try the p110 guns or others instead of p22, see dvgrn's post.

Well, that's if a single-channel Remini-like search in LeapLife works out. I suspect you'll find that there's no workable way to reflect signals at p22, using mechanisms that you can construct with gliders. Or at least you won't be able to split (copy) those signal streams. In that case, you'll just have to use a higher-period gun as your basic logical mechanism, and find a working glider splitting mechanism at that period.

But then I suspect a single-channel search will run out of options. It's quite possible that you won't find a universal set of elbow operations based on just sending or not-sending a glider toward an elbow every 44 or 66 or 88 generations.

But All Is Not Lost
That doesn't mean you have to give up hope, though! It just gets a little more complicated... if you can split and reflect p66 glider streams, let's say, then maybe you'll have to aim _two_ parallel intermittent p66 streams at an elbow object. If two streams isn't enough, you could use three or more streams -- whatever it takes to get a universal set of recipes.

Then you'd use these "two-channel" or "three-channel" recipes to move the elbow forward and backward, and produce sideways gliders that gradually build up a copy of your circuitry, using one-time turners and splitters as needed.

You'd also need to build a series of reflectors that would allow you to reflect the two or three or however many channels' worth of recipe information, and keep them in exact synchrony with each other for the next time that they're needed -- e.g., at the other end of a Demonoid. Or if you have your recipes stored in a series of memory loops inside a universal constructor, then the loops all have to be the same length. Or you could pull tricks like the one in the 10hd and 0hd Demonoids, and store multiple streams of data in series instead of in parallel.

Still A Long Way To Go
There are lots of things that could be tried. But none of them are what you'd call easy. They all imply writing some search scripts to build libraries of elbow operations. Then you'd probably write more scripts to combine those recipes in ways that would let you build the logic structures you'll need to build. It's possible to do most of this stuff by hand, but it might take months or years of effort to put all the pieces together.

Well, that's if a single-channel Remini-like search in LeapLife works out. I suspect you'll find that there's no workable way to reflect signals at p22, using mechanisms that you can construct with gliders. Or at least you won't be able to split (copy) those signal streams. In that case, you'll just have to use a higher-period gun as your basic logical mechanism, and find a working glider splitting mechanism at that period.

But then I suspect a single-channel search will run out of options. It's quite possible that you won't find a universal set of elbow operations based on just sending or not-sending a glider toward an elbow every 44 or 66 or 88 generations.

But All Is Not Lost
That doesn't mean you have to give up hope, though! It just gets a little more complicated... if you can split and reflect p66 glider streams, let's say, then maybe you'll have to aim _two_ parallel intermittent p66 streams at an elbow object. If two streams isn't enough, you could use three or more streams -- whatever it takes to get a universal set of recipes.

Then you'd use these "two-channel" or "three-channel" recipes to move the elbow forward and backward, and produce sideways gliders that gradually build up a copy of your circuitry, using one-time turners and splitters as needed.

You'd also need to build a series of reflectors that would allow you to reflect the two or three or however many channels' worth of recipe information, and keep them in exact synchrony with each other for the next time that they're needed -- e.g., at the other end of a Demonoid. Or if you have your recipes stored in a series of memory loops inside a universal constructor, then the loops all have to be the same length. Or you could pull tricks like the one in the 10hd and 0hd Demonoids, and store multiple streams of data in series instead of in parallel.

Still A Long Way To Go
There are lots of things that could be tried. But none of them are what you'd call easy. They all imply writing some search scripts to build libraries of elbow operations. Then you'd probably write more scripts to combine those recipes in ways that would let you build the logic structures you'll need to build. It's possible to do most of this stuff by hand, but it might take months or years of effort to put all the pieces together.

A splitter based on p22 guns wouldn't be a bad thing, as long as it recovered quickly enough to be used on whatever period of intermittent streams are holding the universal-constructor recipe data.

But finding a splitter based on, say, p66 guns shouldn't be too hard, given that 90-degree reflectors and inverters and so forth are trivial. What kind of catalysts have been collected in this rule? Seems like blocks would work sometimes, and maybe even fishhook eaters, but not in exactly the same situations as in B3/S23. With p66 guns it seems like the p6 traffic lights will be useful as catalysts.

Is there a way to suppress the right side of this glider-producing p66 reaction using p6 TLs or other catalysts, so that the kickback glider happens ever 66 ticks?

The problem is that I tried making a reflector with a block included but it's several weeks and no progress.
Another problem is that I've been trying to make lower period kickback reactions work but none worked out. I've tried for many days as well.

It certainly produces two output gliders for one input glider. Unfortunately the SE output lane overlaps the NW input lane, so this can't be used to duplicate an intermittent p66 stream of gliders. Some other trick is needed to get a glider out, maybe continuing to the NW (?), while removing a glider from the SW-traveling stream.

This can be packed down into a much smaller space, of course, with lots of different output geometries.

EDIT2: Oops, but I momentarily forgot that the whole point was to build something that would work for a p66 intermittent stream of gliders. Because the darn rule includes 2n, that kickback mechanism doesn't move the glider quite far enough over to get it out of the way of a following glider. Is there a way to do a double kickback quickly enough to move a glider over another seven lanes, in time to get it safely out of reach of a following glider?

The reaction in the first pattern above, where two gliders colliding at 180 degrees make a sideways glider, is a really nice feature of the rule. It should make it a lot easier to build things like construction arms, without worrying about finding edge-shooting guns.

I think of two guns, repeatedly producing vanish reactions; The input glider moves through the vanish spot and continues until he 180degree collide with the gun-fired glider, making a sideway glider. That would let the other gun's glider escape. That means two gliders on the same direction, but they are farenough and one of them can be reflected

Are you sure those syntheses are new?
NOT sure...
The last one oscillator synthesis' two glider-cleanup had been known, but I think the initial configuration consists of dual P2s with two blocks synth using 3 gliders seems to be new altought it has other 3-glider synths.
